Egypt\u2019s new <\/strong>wheat-buying <\/strong>system<\/strong> was highlighted in an in-depth piece by <\/strong>Bloomberg<\/a><\/strong>, with the outlet saying that the Egyptian government\u2019s decision to replace the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) with the newly formed<\/a> Mostakbal Misr Agency for Sustainable Development as the state\u2019s main grain buyer has made it more difficult for merchants around the world to see the \u201cvolumes, price and origins\u201d of the wheat that their rivals are trying to sell to Egypt \u2014 a critical market for sellers.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s changed:<\/strong> Despite the closed-door nature of grain buys, traders have generally had access to data on Egypt\u2019s big wheat tenders. Since GASC\u2019s replacement by Mostakbal Misr, that information has dried up, leaving \u201cmany in the market scratching their heads,\u201d Bloomberg writes.<\/p>\n

GASC\u2019s data was \u201cvery useful as an insight into the export market and the <\/strong>competitiveness of various origins,\u201d<\/strong> CRM AgriCommodities consultant Mike Verdin told the outlet, adding that it \u201coffered a guide, both through the list of offers as well as the cargoes actually purchased.
