In another night focused on the situation in Syria<\/strong>, El Hekaya\u2019s Amr Adib brought us coverage of the Arab Ministerial Contact Committee on Syria meeting in Aqaba yesterday. <\/p>\n

Foreign ministers including our own Badr Abdelatty released a <\/strong>17-point statement<\/a><\/strong>following the meeting<\/strong>, where they voiced their support for a \u201cpeaceful, inclusive Syrian political transitional process, in which all Syrian political and social forces are represented\u201d and highlighted the \u201cnecessity of an immediate cessation of all military operations.\u201d Egypt also condemned<\/a> Israel\u2019s military actions in Syria\u2019s buffer zone and condemned the Israeli attacks targeting Syria\u2019s military infrastructure. Abdelatty held meetings with a number of his counterparts from the US, Turkey, and France on the sidelines of the meeting. <\/p>\n

The meeting was an attempt<\/strong> by Arab countries to \u201ccatch up with Syria and have a say in the situation,\u201d according to Adib (watch, runtime: 10:43<\/a>), who added that \u201cit remains unclear whether Arab countries will be be able to play a role in Syria in the future.\u201d <\/p>\n

What to expect next: <\/strong>\u201cIt is unlikely that the Syrian people at this point would choose anyone other than he who saved them from Bashar Al Assad,\u201d Adib said, adding that he expects the transitional government to stay in power until March \u2014 likely followed by elections. <\/p>\n
