El Wazir goes to Italy: <\/strong>Transport and Industry Minister Kamel El Wazir has been in Italy this week to view the country\u2019s high speed rail network and discuss transport and industrial investments and cooperation with a number of public and private sector representatives from Italy and elsewhere, according to a ministry statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n

#1- Scooter manufacturer <\/strong>Piaggio<\/a><\/strong> is mulling reopening its factory in Egypt, with the company citing the government\u2019s focus on localising manufacturing and Egypt\u2019s favorable investment climate as driving the company\u2019s interest. <\/p>\n

#2- Home appliances manufacturer <\/strong>Ariston<\/a><\/strong> is thinking about expanding its presence in the Egyptian market. The company already has three factories in Obour City over 220k sqm.<\/p>\n

#3- Railway company Hitachi<\/strong> Rail <\/strong>\u2014 which recently acquired Thales<\/a> \u2019 ground transportation unit \u2014 is looking to expand its footprint in Egypt, citing the country\u2019s focus on developing its transportation infrastructure. Thales\u2019 former unit is currently developing the first 19-km, 16-station phase of Cairo Metro Line 4<\/a> alongside Orascom Construction and Colas Rail.<\/p>\n

#4- Luxury yacht manufacturer <\/strong>Navigo<\/a> also highlighted its interest in investing in Egypt\u2019s yacht industry, given the country\u2019s prime tourism location and suitability for yacht manufacturing. El Wazir noted Egypt\u2019s readiness to push local yacht production.<\/p>\n

ICYMI- <\/strong>Navigo representatives previously agreed with the government to draft an MoU<\/a> for future cooperation to boost yacht tourism in Egypt.<\/p>\n

#5- Industrial vehicles manufacturer <\/strong>Iveco<\/a> is conducting a feasibility study to launch a new factory in Egypt for truck manufacturing. Iveco cited Egypt\u2019s large consumer market and position as a gateway for exports as among the reasons for its interest.<\/p>\n

#6- Railway and urban mobility company<\/strong> Salcef Group<\/a> discussed establishing a new company in collaboration with Egyptian Railways for Track Renewal and Maintenance Company for the renewal of some 2k km of railway tracks and the provision of railway renewal machinery and equipment. <\/p>\n

PLUS- <\/strong> Italian state-owned Italian State Railways<\/strong> discussed submitting an offer to <\/strong>manage and operate <\/strong>Egypt\u2019s high-speed electric rail network<\/strong> with El Wazir, according to a separate statement<\/a>. The talks come as Deutsche Bahn \u2014 initially tapped<\/a> for the role in 2022 \u2014 has yet to submit a financial offer, violating the Transport Ministry\u2019s regulations for awarding contracts, government sources tell Al Borsa<\/a>.
