The company is also planning to gradually increase the factory\u2019s local component ratio from 48% to 58% over an unspecified time frame. The factory will create 1.2k jobs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>D\u00e9j\u00e0 vu? <\/strong>We <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/9e357004-8015-4344-ba45-46118ea47d44\/astrazeneca-to-nearly-double-local-pill-production-by-2028-as-part-of-usd-50-mn-plan.-plus:%253cmark%253e-baic%253c%2Fmark%253e-group,-fiat-%2B-dynamic-distribution,-capricorn,-jaz-hotel-group,-ferrum-egypt,-nextera,-makanak,-melee,-city-lab\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">first heard about the project<\/a> in September from unconfirmed local media reports, claiming that the two companies were in talks about the project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>It originally looked like BAIC was set to partner with Al Nasr on an EV project: <\/strong>We heard that BAIC <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/963ef0b4-e370-4987-94ff-0db53c2aada9\/el-nasr-to-sign-contracts-next-month-with-china%25e2%2580%2599s%253cmark%253e-baic%253c%2Fmark%253e-group-to-jointly-manufacture-evs-in-egypt\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">inked a MoU with the state-owned Al Nasr Automotive<\/a> to produce EVs locally back in June 2022, but we <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/35e67d37-9ead-40af-b79d-35c2b00fa423\/el-nasr-could-sign-final-contracts-to-produce-evs-next-month\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">never got any confirmation<\/a> that final contracts were signed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>This is far from the only Chinese auto factory in the pipeline: <\/strong>In September, we heard from unconfirmed reports that Chinese auto giant BYD through its local agent was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/32a21f70-2b0c-45cc-a08e-3a3b63ee538a\/more-locally-made-byd-models-to-come%3F-plus:-news-from-usaid,-premium-healthcare,-oppo\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">negotiating to produce<\/a> two new models locally. In the same month, we also heard that Dayun Guangzhou \u2014 whose motorized tricycles and motorcycles are familiar sights on Egyptian roads \u2014 also wants to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a6800dc3-8c4f-4bfd-9f91-c53951d51fe4\/china%25e2%2580%2599s%253cmark%253e-dayun%253c%2Fmark%253e-wants-to-start-locally-assembling-passenger-evs,-trucks,-and-light-transport-vehicles.-plus:-midar,-cairo-3a,-raya-cx\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">expand its range of vehicles assembled here<\/a> to also include passenger cars, light transport vehicles, and trucks.
