If there was any sign during the long campaign about Trump\u2019s approach to the Middle East and U.S. foreign policy more generally, it was retrenchment,\u201d Cook writes, but \u201cthe Egyptians, for example, are convinced that the Trump administration will offer its unconditional support for El Sisi.\u201d He adds that Trump\u2019s world is purely transactional and wonders what Egypt\u2019s currency is in this world. \u201cThe old Egyptian refrain about being a \u2018force for stability in the region\u2019 is getting old \u2014 and is no longer accurate.
