Both Maglis El Dowla and the House are said to be reviewing Dalia Khorshid\u2019s proposed investment act, while \u2014 oddly, in our view \u2014 the Central Bank of Egypt appears to have taken an interest in the automotive directive. The central bank\u2019s decision to advance an alternate measure \u2014 if accurately portrayed in the press \u2014 comes as the directive is stalled in the House, which hasrejected<\/a> certain articles of the act and hadheld off<\/a> further discussion on it pending \u201cfurther study.\u201d Trade and Industry Minister Tarek Kabil has designated the auto industry as a priority, telling investors<\/a> (pdf) at the EFG Hermes Egypt Conference last week that \u201cThe automotive strategy now before Parliament, he said, has the potential to transform Egypt into a leader of the auto industry in the Middle East and Africa.\u201d We\u2019ll have more on both stories tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
