The Wall Street Journal (paywall) believes a \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/re-energized-dollar-looms-over-the-rest-of-the-world-1483272003\"><strong>re-energized USD looms over the rest of the world<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d particularly as the prospect of multiple US interest rate hikes in 2017 will \u201cmake it more attractive to hold USD-denominated assets, attracting money into the US.\u201d That\u2019s largely bad news for emerging markets, as we\u2019ve argued in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Financial Times looks at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e65508e8-c219-11e6-9bca-2b93a6856354\"><strong>nine events it thinks will set the tone for 2017<\/strong><\/a><strong> globally<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Trump\u2019s inauguration (January) and first year in office<\/li>\n<li>The UK\u2019s activation of a key article in its journey out of the European Union (March)<\/li>\n<li>The battle for Raqqa (first half)<\/li>\n<li>French presidential elections \u2014 will the far-right rise?
