He says Harvey has more mainstream views on Islam than national security advisor Michael Flynn, \u201cbut he still has strange baggage.\u201d Cook points to what he claims is Harvey\u2019s insistence on using phrases like \u201cradical Islamic extremism\u201d and \u201cmilitant Islam,\u201d his shifting stance on Saudi Arabia, and his views on Turkey. He adds, \u201cHarvey seems to like Sisi, lauding the Egyptian leader for his public stance opposing extremism<\/strong> \u2014 something the American right gives Sisi too much credit for and the American left too little,\u201d but Cook is of the opinion that \u201cEgypt is not the regional force for stability it once was, even if, like Harvey, one sees the world almost entirely in terms of the fight against Islamist extremism.\u201d He believes Harvey\u2019s underlying ideas about how to achieve US foreign policy goals are either \u201cconfused, uninformed or burdened with unhelpful ideology.\u201d<\/p>\n
