The poll closes next Tuesday, and we\u2019ll announce the results and the names of our lunch guests on Sunday, 2 April.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Central bank Governor Tarek Amer has not resigned<\/strong> and told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alarabiya.net\/ar\/aswaq\/banks\/2017\/03\/23\/%D9%85%D8%AD%D8%A7%D9%81%D8%B8-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%B1%D9%83%D8%B2%D9%8A-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%B5%D8%B1%D9%8A-%D9%8A%D8%A4%D9%83%D8%AF-%D9%84%D9%80-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D8%A8%D9%82%D8%A7%D8%A1%D9%87-%D9%81%D9%8A-%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B5%D8%A8%D9%87.html\">Al Arabiya<\/a> he will return to work \u201csoon\u201d after having had surgery. Amer said \u201cthere is no reason\u201d for him to resign as CBE governor, particularly after having moved to float the EGP in November. Rumors had been circulating over the weekend, prompted by a story on a tabloid website (previously well-sourced on CBE issues) that Amer had stepped down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It will be a busy day for: The House of Representatives. <\/strong>The House Economics Committee will begin <strong>discussion of the USD 12 bn IMF bailout agreement<\/strong>. The committee has reportedly invited Finance Minister Amr El Garhy and three of his deputies, as well as Central Bank Governor Tarek Amer, to join the discussion, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alborsanews.com\/2017\/03\/25\/999596\">Al Borsa says<\/a>. The agreement will not be going to a plenary session for a vote before it gets a seal of approval from both the economics and budget committees, but a member of the latter said that it was not yet on their agenda. The Legislative Committee signed off on the pact two weeks ago. The House will also discuss the <strong>Contractor's Compensation Act<\/strong> during its general assembly meeting today, MP Mohamed Badawy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shorouknews.com\/news\/view.aspx?cdate=25032017&id=5f84330b-b8e5-472e-a1e1-22a948880dea\">tells Al Shorouk<\/a>. Contractors had been <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/03\/13\/egyptian-contractors-could-escalate-outcry-against-delays-in-compensation-act\/\">threatening to derail projects<\/a> due to what they perceived as delays in passing the bill that would compensate them for losses incurred on government contracts as a result of the EGP float and presumably see the government reprice contracts to reflect the new cost base. <a href=\"http:\/\/english.ahram.org.eg\/NewsContent\/1\/64\/261619\/Egypt\/Politics-\/Egypt-parliament-to-discuss-amended-protest-law-Su.aspx\">Also expected today<\/a>: A plenary session debate of an <strong>amended version of the protest law<\/strong> (an article of which was earlier declared unconstitutional), and MPs will begin discussing a bill to create a <strong>10-member National Election Commission<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The cabinet economic group will be meeting today to discuss the FY2017-18 budget,<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahram.org.eg\/News\/202214\/25\/585058\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D9%88%D9%84%D9%89\/%D9%85%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%AD-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%B2%D9%86%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AC%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%AF%D8%A9-%D8%A3%D9%85%D8%A7%D9%85-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%AC%D9%85%D9%88%D8%B9%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%82%D8%AA%D8%B5%D8%A7%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D8%A8%D8%B9.aspx\">Al Ahram<\/a> reports. Expenditures will surpass EGP 1.1 tn on the back of increased spending on subsidies and social welfare programs, in addition to making good on constitutional requirements of allocating 8% of total state expenditures to health and education, which <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/03\/15\/govt-to-meet-constitutional-requirements-on-health-education-spending-next-fiscal-year\/\">Prime Minister Sherif Ismail had promised earlier this month<\/a>. Finance Minister Amr El Garhy <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/03\/22\/el-garhy-discusses-budget-in-an-al-ahram-interview\/\">had previously told the newspaper<\/a> that total spending on subsidies should come in at EGP 385 bn, up from EGP 285 bn in the current fiscal year, while social welfare programs, including Takaful and Karama, will cost the state around EGP 200 bn.
