Egypt\u2019s recent <\/strong>delivery of arms<\/a><\/strong> to Somalia has caught the attention of the international <\/strong>press,<\/strong> with Reuters<\/a> writing that the move is \u201clikely to stoke further friction between the two countries and Ethiopia\u201d amid Ethiopia\u2019s potential port land lease agreement with the breakaway Somaliland region that would see Ethiopia possibly recognize Somaliland as independent. <\/p>\n

The details: <\/strong>The shipment \u2014 which also received ink from Bloomberg<\/a> \u2014 which includes anti-aircraft guns and artillery and was dispatched by warship, is Egypt\u2019s second delivery of weapons to Somalia since the two countries signed<\/a> a joint security pact in August. Somaliland\u2019s Foreign Affairs Ministry, for its part, reportedly expressed concerns that the weapons may fall into the wrong hands, like those of Al Shabab.<\/p>\n

Tensions with Ethiopia are at a high: <\/strong>The news comes as tension between Egypt and Ethiopia ratchets up amid Ethiopia\u2019s continued work on its Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
