Social AI<\/strong> \u2014 is stirring up a debate about what social media should be<\/strong>. Created by Michael Sayman, the app<\/a> gives users a private social experience \u2014 instead of interacting with actual people, you have AI chatbots responding<\/a> to your every post. Critics call it a parody of micro-blogging platforms and \u201c pure artifice<\/a>,\u201d but Sayman insists that it\u2019s a healthier alternative to today\u2019s toxic online environment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

How does it work?<\/strong> The app allows you to choose what type of bots you want as followers responding to your posts \u2014 haters, praisers, skeptics, realists, etc. Once you\u2019ve picked your audience you post your thoughts, similar to Threads<\/a> and X<\/a>, and the bots will instantly respond.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a playground for your thoughts without the public judgment: <\/strong>While it may seem like a feedback loop, Sayman argues that users are looking for more than validation: \u201dMost people don't select fans or bots that just please them. They're actually selecting the debater, the contrarian, the realist. They're trying to find challenges to their views.\"<\/p>\n

The purpose of the app is to capture the true essence of early social media, when its sole <\/strong>purpose was to connect people with one another,<\/strong> rather than chasing likes and conforming to the algorithm. In today's social media climate, people are sometimes pressured to mold their content in order to fit in with societal rules \u2014 which causes many to either shy away in fear of not being accepted, creating a toxic environment.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s also made to cure loneliness\u2026<\/strong> People today are increasingly turning to chatbots \u2014 like ChatGPT \u2014 for advice, consolidation, therapy<\/a> or even companionship<\/a>.
