The withholding of some US financial aid to Egypt \u201camounts to a \u2018very light slap<\/strong> on the wrist\u2019 that is expected to have \u2018no effect at all\u2019 on Egyptian human-rights practices,\u201d <\/strong>Carnegie Endowment scholar Sarah Yerkes tells JPost<\/a>. She adds: \u201cThe Sisi regime knows they\u2019re a big country, an important country in the region, that they have an important role to play in the peace process which is a priority for the administration. It\u2019s clear they need Egypt on their side if they want to get anywhere with the Israeli-Palestinian process.\u201d Yerkes does not see the US taking any further steps against Egypt.
