The labor researcher went missing on 25 January; his body was found on the outskirts of the capital city days later with multiple signs of brutal torture. \u201cThe Italian government's commitment remains to clarify the tragic disappearance of Giulio,\u201d the Italian foreign ministry said in a statement. \u201cSending an authoritative liaison (ambassador) will help, through contacts with the Egyptian authorities, reinforce judicial cooperation and as a consequence the search for the truth.\u201d This comes as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ansamed.info\/ansamed\/en\/news\/nations\/italy\/2017\/08\/14\/new-regeni-documents-sent-from-egypt_98637a72-14d3-4b67-9935-e8d2dd10a3c2.html\">sources tell ANSAmed<\/a> that Egyptian prosecutors took \u201ca step forward\u201d on Monday and sent Rome new transcripts from the questioning of police officers who investigated Regeni\u2019s death. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/nation-world\/article167117662.html\">Associated Press<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-italy-egypt-regeni-murder-idUSKCN1AU1YL\">Reuters<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/english.ahram.org.eg\/NewsContent\/1\/64\/275358\/Egypt\/Politics-\/Italy-to-return-ambassador-to-Cairo-after-a-years-.aspx\">Ahram Online<\/a> also have the story.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephen Fakan, the US consul general in Alexandria, announced his departure last week<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/stephenfakan\/posts\/762794553893523\">Fakan wrote on Facebook<\/a> he and his wife \u201cwanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone who made our tour so special and memorable. This city and lower Egypt is undeniably a remarkable place with remarkable people, and although we leave with heavy hearts, we are grateful that so many of you have shared this wonderful city and its vibrant culture with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will the government announce across-the-board cuts in port fees today?<\/strong> From what <a href=\"http:\/\/www.almalnews.com\/Story\/343049\/58\/%D8%AA%D8%AE%D9%81%D9%8A%D8%B6%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D8%AA%D8%B5%D9%84-%D8%A5%D9%84%D9%89-40%D8%A8%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%A6%D8%A9-%D9%81%D9%89-%D8%B1%D8%B3%D9%88%D9%85-%D9%85%D9%8A%D9%86%D8%A7%D8%A1-%D8%B4%D8%B1%D9%82-%D8%A8%D9%88%D8%B1%D8%B3%D8%B9%D9%8A%D8%AF\">we\u2019re hearing via Al Mal<\/a>, Transport Minister Hisham Arafat will be announcing discounts as high as 40% on port fees in East Port Said at a presser today. The discounts, which will be based on cargo volume, are meant to win back shipping lines that <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/06\/05\/government-could-hire-private-consultant-to-further-study-hike-in-port-fees\/\">left the port in March<\/a> to protest a 150% hike in fees. Additional fees imposed on ships longer than 350 meters will also be scrapped, sources said. This comes as we await the <strong>announcement of <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/08\/14\/what-were-tracking-this-week-152\/\"><strong>unified fees for ports<\/strong><\/a><strong> across the country on Thursday,<\/strong> sources also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.almalnews.com\/Story\/343116\/58\/%D9%82%D9%86%D8%A7%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%88%D9%8A%D8%B3-%D8%AA%D8%A4%D8%AC%D9%84-%D9%85%D8%A4%D8%AA%D9%85%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B1%D8%B3%D9%88%D9%85-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AC%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%AF%D8%A9-%D8%A5%D9%84%D9%89-%D9%87%D8%B0%D8%A7-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%88%D8%B9%D8%AF\">tell the newspaper<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pimco sees \u201chandsome\u201d rewards in emerging market bonds, including Egypt\u2019s<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-08-14\/ashmore-says-world-s-best-bond-bet-is-local-emerging-market-debt\">Bloomberg reports<\/a>. The fixed-income giant said yesterday that EM local government debt will become \u201cmuch larger, deeper and more liquid as countries including China and Egypt are likely added to benchmark indexes.\u201d This is expected to increase the attractiveness of assets that are already being boosted by a slumping USD. And Pimco isn\u2019t only one singing the praises of EM bonds: BNP Paribas Asset Management, Schroders Plc and Ashmore are all bullish, with the latter calling them \u201cthe best bet in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Financial Times released a 17-book <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/0481517c-7c47-11e7-ab01-a13271d1ee9c\"><strong>long list for the FT \/ McKinsey annual <\/strong><strong>Business Book of the Year for 2017<\/strong><\/a>. The FT says this year\u2019s titles \u201cgive a new twist to the old maxim about certainty\u201d and \u201cinclude analyses of the implications of world-changing innovations, from the iPhone to drones; a lively account of the rise of Uber; and a sobering history of the role war, plague and catastrophe have played in shaping our economies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the standouts on the list is <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/02\/17\/the-biggest-insider-trading-case-in-history\/\">Sheelah Kolhatkar\u2019s Black Edge<\/a>, which, besides sounding very familiar to fans of the HBO series bns, \u201cdescribes how Steven Cohen\u2019s former hedge fund, SAC Capital, built its Wall Street dominance before facing insider trading charges.\u201d The economics nerds here were happy to see Nobel Laureate Jean Tirole\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/press.princeton.edu\/titles\/10919.html\">Economics for the Common Good<\/a> get a nod, despite him consistently being the main source of nightmares for postgraduate microeconomics students since the 1980s. And the Apple Sheep among us are really enjoying Brian Merchant\u2019s critical look at the development and manufacturing of the iPhone in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/One-Device-Secret-History-iPhone-ebook\/dp\/B01LWRN0KI\">The One Device<\/a>. More mainstream authors on the list include the Middle-East-taxi-driver-whisperer Thomas Friedman and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Stephen King, and journalist Amy Goldstein.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking to add to your TBR pile from past winners? <\/strong>We highly recommend Esther Duflo\u2019s and Abhijit Banerjee\u2019s magnum opus <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pooreconomics.com\/about-book\/buy-book\">Poor Economics<\/a> \u2014 in our opinion, the single most influential book on the list.
