ON THIS DAY- <\/strong>On this day in 1789, the Judiciary Act was passed<\/a> by Congress and signed by President George Washington, establishing the Supreme Court of the United States as a tribunal made up of six justices who were to serve on the court until death or retirement. In 1976, white rule was ended<\/a> in Rhodesia after the Rhodesian Government agreed to introduce black majority rule to the country within two years. Also, American novelist F Scott Fitzgerald was born on this day in 1896.
