Now, you want to promote your own \u201crich and <\/strong>diverse heritage\u201d? <\/strong>The UK\u2019s Northampton Borough Council, which sold an ancient Egyptian statue of the scribe Sekhemka in 2014, says it wants to promote its global cultural reputation, according to BBC<\/a>. The council says it wants to \u201ccome up with an \u2018action plan\u2019 to promote the town internationally,\u201d noting that Northampton has a \u201crich and diverse heritage.\u201d The council had come under fire<\/a> after selling the statue for GBP 15.67 mn to an anonymous buyer to finance an extension to the town\u2019s museum and art gallery. Egypt fiercely opposed the sale and had launched fundraising attempts to purchase the statue at the museum\u2019s auction.<\/p>\n
