Traffic will get worse over the coming days, but D-Day is Saturday, 23 September, when public schools go back.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You have about 15 days and 17 hours left until our next three-day weekend<\/strong>, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 21 September. Plan from now to enjoy it: Armed Forces Day (6 October) falls on a Friday this year, so the next holiday thereafter is Thursday, 30 November for the Prophet Muhammad\u2019s Birthday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s going to be a busy fall for business<\/strong> as we all try to figure out how to budget for next year. We\u2019re increasingly convinced 2018 will be more challenging than many presently expect. You\u2019ll also want to pay close attention to the Ismail government\u2019s very ambitious fall regulatory and legislative agendas, which will kick into high gear when the House reconvenes (most likely later this month, it seems). If you missed it last Thursday: <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/08\/30\/on-the-horizon-185\/\"><strong>We have a roundup of key legislation and pending regulatory changes here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-01\"><\/a> <strong>FDI rises 27.5% in FY2016-17, GDP growth confirmed at 4.9% in fourth quarter of the state fiscal year that just ended: <\/strong>The Finance Ministry had some good news right before Eid as it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mof.gov.eg\/Arabic\/esdarate\/Pages\/Report7-2017.aspx\">announced in a report<\/a> that foreign direct investment rose 27.5% y-o-y in FY2016-17. The ministry confirmed that the economy grew 4.9% in the final quarter of the last fiscal year (the three months ending this past 30 June), compared to 2.3% in the same period last year. <strong>Trade deficit figures also improved, dropping to 46% during the year<\/strong>. The news won us some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.ae\/business\/economy\/egypt-s-economic-growth-more-than-doubles-in-quarter-1.624377\">nice ink from Reuters<\/a>, but before we get all smug, you may want to take note that <a href=\"http:\/\/business.financialpost.com\/news\/economy\/newsalert-canadas-economic-growth-higher-than-expected-in-second-quarter-2\">Canada\u2019s economy grew an insane 4.5%<\/a> in the quarter ending in June.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, <strong>Finance Minister Amr El Garhy <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/almalnews.com\/Story\/344546\/12\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D8%AC%D8%A7%D9%86%D8%A8-%D9%8A%D8%B3%D8%AA%D8%AB%D9%85%D8%B1%D9%88%D9%86-16-%D9%85%D9%84%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D8%AF%D9%88%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D9%81%D9%89-%D9%85%D8%AD%D9%81%D8%B8%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AF%D9%8A%D9%86-\"><strong>announced that<\/strong><\/a><strong> foreign interest in Egyptian debt remained strong in August<\/strong>, growing to reach USD 16 bn, up from USD 14.2 bn <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/08\/06\/yields-on-egypts-short-term-borrowing-fall-significantly\/\">a month before<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of El Garhy, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youm7.com\/story\/2017\/9\/2\/%D9%88%D8%B2%D9%8A%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D9%8A%D8%B4%D8%A7%D8%B1%D9%83-%D9%81%D9%89-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%AC%D8%AA%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%B9%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%86%D9%88%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D9%84%D8%B5%D9%86%D8%AF%D9%88%D9%82-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%86%D9%82%D8%AF-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AF%D9%88%D9%84%D9%89-%D8%A3%D9%83%D8%AA%D9%88%D8%A8%D8%B1\/3395378\">sources have confirmed to Youm7<\/a> that<strong> the minister and Vice Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk will be attending the IMF and World Bank\u2019s fall meetings<\/strong> in mid-October. They\u2019re expected to discuss progress on the government\u2019s economic reform agenda.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EgyptAir and the Civil Aviation Ministry claimed that the ban on electronic devices on flights to the UK was lifted as of last Friday<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/egyptair?lang=en\">EgyptAir\u2019s statement<\/a> is vague and cites an \u201cinformed resources\u201d in the airline itself. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/travel\/3142972\/uk-laptop-ban-flights-devices-countries-us-saudi-arabia\/\">The UK ban differs slightly<\/a> from the US one which has already been lifted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will become the first Egyptian president to visit Vietnam when he heads to Hanoi tomorrow. <\/strong>El Sisi flies after a stop in China for the 2017 BRICS Summit, where he\u2019s set to deliver a second speech today that will focus on investment opportunities for BRICS countries in Egypt. The president is also expected to<strong> sit down with senior execs from a number of Chinese companies<\/strong>. We have more in the Speed Round, below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But all we can obsess over this morning is the nutter in Pyongyang dancing ever closer to nuclear Armageddon<\/strong> in his showdown with the Trump administration. More on this, too, in Speed Round.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STRATEGY WATCH- <\/strong>Norges Bank, the world\u2019s largest sovereign wealth fund at USD 990 bn, \u201chas unveiled radical proposals to transform its bond investment by turning its back on corporate debt and fixed income in currencies other than USD, EUR and GBP,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/6ae01b5a-9151-11e7-a9e6-11d2f0ebb7f0\">the Financial Times reports<\/a>. Its new approach would <strong>largely exclude \u201cbonds denominated in yen or emerging market currencies<\/strong>, as well as long-dated issues such as 100-year instruments.\u201d <strong>Norges still seems to like equities<\/strong>, though, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbim.no\/en\/transparency\/submissions-to-ministry\/2017\/bonds-in-the-government-pension-fund-global\/\">noting in a public letter<\/a> that \u201cIn the long term, the gains from broad international diversification are considerable for equities but moderate for bonds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-08\"><\/a> <strong>What\u2019s on everybody\u2019s mind today, however, is Egypt\u2019s last ditch attempt to finally make it to the World Cup.<\/strong> After this past Thursday\u2019s devastating 1-0 loss to Uganda during the third round qualifiers, we are praying for a victory tonight.
