ON THIS DAY-<\/strong> On this day in 1967, Marxist revolutionary Ernesto 'Che' Guevara was executed by the Bolivian army. \u201cThe US-military-backed Bolivian forces captured Guevara on October 8 while battling his band of guerrillas in Bolivia and assassinated him the following day<\/a>. His hands were cut off as proof of death and his body was buried in an unmarked grave.\u201d In 1988, Latvians marched on the streets of Riga to pressure Moscow<\/a> for greater independence from the Soviet Union.
