Metro ticket prices will be increased and subjected to a tier system based on distance traveled by the end of next year, ministry sources tell Al Shorouk<\/a>. The new pricing scheme will come into effect once the fourth phase of Cairo Metro Line 3 is launched in November 2018, according to the sources. The price changes are also contingent on the installation of new electronic turnstiles at the stations for lines 1 and 2. Transport Minister Hisham Arafat has given a number of dates by which tickets are expected to increase. He had initially said<\/a> that an increase of EGP 2-4 would be implemented in 4Q2018, but then said the hikes would not happen until Cairo Metro Line 3 is fully operational in 2020<\/a>.
