Topping coverage of Egypt in the foreign press this morning are reports of EU countries <\/strong>expressing concern over the arrest of the Egyptian human rights lawyer<\/strong> investigating the Regeni murder. Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Britain and Canada saying they were \u201cdeeply concerned\u201d at the ongoing detention of human rights lawyer Ibrahim Metwaly Hegaz, Reuters reports<\/a>. \u201cWe are concerned at the detention conditions that Ibrahim Metwaly Hegazy is reportedly enduring, and continue to call for transparency on prison conditions in Egypt,\u201d a joint statement published on the British government website said late on Friday.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Italian prosecutors have sent a formal petition to the British authorities last <\/strong>week asking to question Giulio Regeni's Cambridge University tutor<\/strong>, Professor Maha Mahfouz Abdel Rahman, ANSA reports<\/a>. \u201cThe move regards alleged ambiguity and omissions by the woman in relation to the probe into the torture and murder of [Regeni],\u201d the report noted.<\/p>\n
