Elon Musk\u2019s X is reportedly defying European privacy rules. <\/strong>Data belonging to X users is being fed to Elon Musk\u2019s startup xAI<\/a> without consent, reports the Financial Times<\/a>. The company could be facing a fine<\/a> of up to 4% of their annual global revenue as a consequence, as this defies the EU Data Protection Regulations<\/a> that require companies to obtain individual user consent and disclose their purpose before harvesting and using personal data.<\/p>\n

A desperate push for competition.<\/strong> Musk needed access to X\u2019s repository of user data for a shot to compete with AI titans like OpenAI and Google. The company responded to backlash by updating their help center<\/a> to include the option to opt out: \u201cAll X users have the ability to control whether their public posts can be used to train Grok, the AI search assistant.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Musk scheme?<\/strong> The serial entrepreneur, who has evoked numerous<\/a>data privacy concerns<\/a> since his takeover<\/a> of Twitter, now X, seems to be eager for integration between his businesses, and is currently waiting for approval from Tesla\u2019s board for an injection of USD 5 bn into xAI<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, the tech personality <\/strong>met up<\/a><\/strong> with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin <\/strong>Netanyahu<\/strong> to discuss the possible advantages of AI use,<\/strong> holding meetings after the US congressional speech, which Musk attended as a personal guest<\/a> of the Israeli PM.<\/p>\n

The 2024 Paris Olympics <\/strong>ha<\/strong>ve been rife with controversy since the opening <\/strong>ceremony, but the games have just had their first official scandal.<\/strong> Two assistant coaches to the Canadian women\u2019s soccer team were caught spying<\/a> on an opposing team\u2019s practice sessions using drones, resulting in a fine of USD 226k, and both assistants being banned from the sport for one year. Head coach Bev Priestman, who helped the team secure the gold medal<\/a> in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, has also been suspended.<\/p>\n
