The site of the world's worst nuclear accident is now home to a solar power plant,<\/strong> BBC reports<\/a>. Marking the 32nd anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, Ukraine\u2019s Evgeniy Variagin has built a small solar power plant alongside the old reactor, which exploded in April 1986, causing what is now considered the most disastrous nuclear power plant accident in history. \u201cWe want to bring back this territory to the people,\u201d says Variagin, noting that tens of thousands of people were evacuated from the area and a 30-km exclusion zone was set up around it. The project will use some of Chernobyl\u2019s old power grid and will be controlled remotely from Germany. The plant is small scale, \u201cbut Ukraine has ambitious plans for a much larger 1.2 GW Chernobyl solar plant,\u201d according to the report.
