The new scheme \u2014 a continuation of the government\u2019s strategy to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/03\/29\/egyptera-to-meet-in-two-weeks-to-discuss-pricing-formula-for-july-power-bill-hike\/\">gradually phaseout power subsidies<\/a> until they\u2019re eliminated in FY2020-21 \u2014 sees <strong>prices rising within a range of 30-45%<\/strong>, from the lower- to the higher end of the consumption spectrum, with the <strong>top two tiers set to pay a higher price for power than its cost of production <\/strong>in order to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/07\/09\/government-announces-new-electricity-prices\/\">partially cover the costs<\/a> of subsidizing electricity for lower-income brackets.
