MPs eventually agreed yesterday to amend a clause that allows companies such as Uber and Careem to keep user private unless they receive an official government request to access their databases, in which case they would be given a 180-day window to comply. As <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/04\/02\/what-were-the-objections-of-the-council-of-state-on-the-ride-hailing-apps-2\/\">we noted previously<\/a>, the Council of State (Maglis El Dawla) had raised several objections to the act, the most pressing of which were the provisions on sharing user data, which the Council said would be unconstitutional, as the bill in its original form would have required the companies to grant the government permanent access to their databases.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The bill will go up for a final vote at a plenary session of the House next week.<\/strong> In the meantime, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/03\/29\/a-copy-of-the-ride-hailing-apps-act-just-got-leaked-to-the-press\/\">click here for a refresher<\/a> on the draft law\u2019s main planks.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Parliamentary Speaker Ali Abdel Aal referred the draft FY2018-19 state budget yesterday to the House Planning and Budgeting Committee<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.almalnews.com\/Story\/371106\/19\/%D8%AA%D8%B9%D8%B1%D9%81-%D8%B9%D9%84%D9%8A-%D9%85%D8%B4%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%B9%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D9%82%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%8A%D9%86-%D8%A3%D8%AD%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%87%D8%A7-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A8%D8%B1%D9%84%D9%85%D8%A7%D9%86-%D9%84%D9%85%D9%86%D8%A7%D9%82%D8%B4%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%84%D8%AC%D8%A7%D9%86\">Al Mal reports<\/a>. Discussions are expected to kick off in mid-April after Finance Minister Amr El Garhy and Planning Minister Hala El Said address the general assembly within two weeks, committee head <a href=\"https:\/\/alborsanews.com\/2018\/04\/02\/1096975\">Hussein Eissa said<\/a>. The committee is currently focusing on completing its discussion of the Unified Planning Act, which it also received yesterday.
