All three lines will operate from 5:30 am until 02:00 am (instead of midnight), while only lines one and two will put on extra trains. Egyptian National Railways is also tweaking its service schedule between Cairo, Alex, Mansoura and Ismailia for the month. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorouknews.com\/news\/view.aspx?cdate=16052018&id=6e88aa98-e263-460c-ab4d-3d6cc8907de9\">The full schedule is here<\/a> for the curious.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So, when do we eat? <\/strong>Maghrib is at 6:43 pm CLT today. You\u2019ll have until 3:20 am on Friday to finish your sohour. By the last day of Ramadan, you\u2019re looking at 3:08am for fajr prayers and 6:58pm for maghrib.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s not just Ramadan \u2014 it\u2019s interest rate day: <\/strong>The central bank is widely expected to keep interest rates on hold when its Monetary Policy Committee meets today. Nine of 11 economists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devdiscourse.com\/Article\/7578-egypt-central-bank-to-keep-key-interest-rates-unchanged\/Middle%20East%20and%20North%20Africa\">polled by Reuters expect rates to remain on hold<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A basket of factors argues in favor of stasis:<\/strong> The prospect of an <strong>inflationary spike this summer<\/strong> when the next round of fuel subsidy cuts kicks in (annual headline inflation rate dropped to 13.1% in April from 13.3% in March, while core inflation was up fractionally to 11.62% from 11.59%). <strong>Oil prices are high<\/strong> and could still rise, as CBE Governor Tarek Amer <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/05\/14\/what-were-tracking-on-14-may-2018\/\">acknowledged earlier this week<\/a>. <strong>The US Fed is still going to hike interest rates<\/strong> at the same time as the <strong>greenback gathers strength<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oh, and Brazil unexpectedly left its key interest rate unchanged yesterday<\/strong>, with the central bank there <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/09496c20-5951-11e8-bdb7-f6677d2e1ce8\">explaining in a statement<\/a> that the ongoing emerging markets rout was at the heart of its decision: \u201cThe external scenario became more challenging and volatile. \u2026 there was a reduction in risk appetite for emerging economies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Not to worry: Tastemaking fund managers are still bullish on EM. <\/strong>The founder of emerging market-focused hedge fund Pharo (which has generated double-digit annualized returns at all of its funds save one over the past five years) still likes the asset class very much, he tells the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/29ac6968-528a-11e8-b24e-cad6aa67e23e\">Financial Times<\/a>. Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/07defef6-5927-11e8-bdb7-f6677d2e1ce8\">Franklin Templeton has thrown Argentina a lifeline<\/a>, snapping up more than USD 2.25 bn in Argentine bonds.<\/p>\n<p>Back here at home, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi believes \u201c<strong>Egypt\u2019s economy needs to grow at least 7.5% a year to lift living standards<\/strong> for a surging population,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-05-16\/egypt-s-baby-boom-needs-a-pumped-up-economy-el-sisi-says\">Bloomberg reports<\/a>, picking up on remarks the president made yesterday at his latest youth conference.
