The levy, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/07\/02\/what-were-tracking-on-02-july-2017\/\">which came into effect last year<\/a>, will rise to 0.175% next year. The Financial Regulatory Authority is debating whether to cut regulatory fees on stock market trades to 0.04% from a present 0.05%, to offset the burden imposed by the annual rise in the stamp tax, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/05\/07\/exclusive-fra-looking-to-marginally-lower-regulatory-fees-on-stock-market-trades-as-stamp-tax-increases-next-fiscal-year\/\">sources from the authority told Enterprise last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During its first year in effect, <strong>the stamp tax earned the government EGP 700 mn in revenues from main market transactions excluding OTC trades<\/strong>, Misr For Central Clearing, Depository & Registry Managing Director Tarek Abdel Bary told Enterprise yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Apple\u2019s World Wide Developer Conference gets underway today <\/strong>in California with a keynote speech at 10am Pacific time (that\u2019s 7:00pm CLT tonight). Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2018\/06\/02\/wwdc-2018-expectations-ios-12-watchos-macos-more\/\">9to5Mac<\/a> has a rundown of what you can expect, namely iterative improvements to iOS 12 as Apple pushes new tentpole features to next year to allow its engineers time to focus on quality. Also: Don\u2019t hold your breath for a lot of new hardware. The conference is front-page news in the global business press this morning. As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/apple-software-bit-by-bugs-is-a-focus-at-developers-conference-1528030800\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> puts it, Apple\u2019s goal is \u201cfewer [new] features, but fewer bugs.\u201d Also on analysts\u2019 wish list: Improvements to Siri, plans to tackle \u201cdevice addiction\u201d and a plan to win over HomePod skeptics, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e959cf40-6602-11e8-90c2-9563a0613e56\">Financial Times<\/a> adds.<\/p>\n<p>Also for tech types this morning: <strong>Microsoft could announce as soon as today that it will acquire GitHub<\/strong>, the popular developer tools platform that allows techies to manage code, among other things. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/2-billion-startup-github-could-be-for-sale-microsoft-2018-5\">Business Insider<\/a> broke news of the talks over the weekend, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-06-03\/microsoft-is-said-to-have-agreed-to-acquire-coding-site-github\">Bloomberg<\/a> confirmed the news yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Many women with early stage breast cancer could be spared chemotherapy<\/strong> \u201cfollowing the publication of a groundbreaking study showing that they derive no benefit from the grueling treatment,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/facd9370-66dd-11e8-8cf3-0c230fa67aec\">Financial Times<\/a> reports. The 10k patient study is front-page news around the world, having suggested that <strong>70% of women \u201cshould not be given chemotherapy because it does not improve their survival prospects. <\/strong>They can therefore be treated with hormone therapy alone, which is far milder.\u201d They found that tests of gene activity in tumor samples could identify women who could safely skip chemotherapy in favor of hormone therapy. The caveat: Some women 50 or younger \u201cmight benefit from chemo even if gene-test results suggested otherwise,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/06\/03\/health\/breast-cancer-chemo.html\">New York Times<\/a> notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yield is not a dirty word: <\/strong>Manulife Financial, the Canadian giant that has \u201cspent years buying stakes in pipelines, power grids and transportation systems \u2026 now wants to manage more of these types of assets for other investors,\u201d shifting roughly USD 1 bn in existing infrastructure investments into a new fund that is open to outside clients. \u2026 One large European investor committed some USD 1 bn. \u2026 <strong>Big institutional investors are looking for new ways to generate yield<\/strong> after years of ultralow interest rates and expensive asset prices. More are now turning to investments in pipelines, utilities and roads to generate stable cash flows.
