While South Africa is at the bottom of the scorecard \u2014 which lists 21 developing economies in order of safety based on metrics that include GDP, current account deficit, sovereign credit ratings, and bond and stock valuations \u2014 \u201cPakistan and Egypt have seen the biggest gains in their scores compared with the levels at the end of 2016,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-05-31\/asia-tops-emerging-market-scorecard-after-rout-as-s-africa-lags\">says Bloomberg<\/a>, noting that \u201cEgypt benefited from a credit rating upgrade and higher reserves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abraaj facing bankruptcy thanks to Kuwait\u2019s pension fund? <\/strong>Kuwait\u2019s pension fund is \u201ctrying to force private-equity firm Abraaj Group into bankruptcy proceedings over allegedly not repaying a USD 100 mn loan,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/kuwait-pension-fund-tries-to-force-abraaj-into-bankruptcy-1527717453\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> reports, citing court documents filed on 22 May in the Cayman Islands. The fund argues that Abraaj is \u201csubstantially insolvent\u201d and unable to repay the loan plus some USD 7 mn in interest by today\u2019s due date.
