The loan will fund a series of ambitious healthcare programs, including the survey and free treatment of Hepatitis C victims, upgrading hospitals in the first phase of the roll out of the new universal healthcare system, and some help with family planning initiatives. The World Bank had pledged the funding <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/07\/02\/world-bank-pledges-usd-530-mn-to-improve-egypts-healthcare-system\/\">earlier this month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This comes as the government is close to closing USD 2 bn in new financing from the World Bank<\/strong> that Egypt requested during an ongoing visit by a WB team, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/07\/10\/egypt-requests-usd-2-bn-in-funding-from-the-world-bank-2\/\">sources told us<\/a> earlier this week. While nothing official has been released by the government, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahram.org.eg\/News\/202704\/5\/660186\/%D8%A7%D9%82%D8%AA%D8%B5%D8%A7%D8%AF\/%D9%85%D8%B5%D8%B1-%D8%AA%D8%AA%D9%81%D8%A7%D9%88%D8%B6-%D8%B9%D9%84%D9%89-%D8%AA%D9%85%D9%88%D9%8A%D9%84-%D8%AC%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%AF-%D8%A8%D9%82%D9%8A%D9%85%D8%A9-%D9%85%D9%84%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D8%AF%D9%88%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D9%84%D8%AA%D9%86%D9%85%D9%8A%D8%A9.aspx\">state-owned Al Ahram<\/a> has picked up our story, citing their own sources as saying the funding would run through 2022. They added that some USD 1 bn of he funding would be used for Sinai Development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, Investment Minister Sahar Nasr sat down with the WB team for follow up talks on a USD 500 mn loan<\/strong> request to fund social housing development, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.miic.gov.eg\/Arabic\/MediaCenter\/News\/Pages\/%D8%AF-%D8%B3%D8%AD%D8%B1-%D9%86%D8%B5%D8%B1-%D8%AA%D8%A8%D8%AD%D8%AB-%D9%85%D8%B9-%D8%A8%D8%B9%D8%AB%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A8%D9%86%D9%83-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AF%D9%88%D9%84%D9%89-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%B9-%D9%81%D9%89-%D8%AA%D9%88%D9%81%D9%8A%D8%B1-%D8%AA%D9%85%D9%88%D9%8A%D9%84-%D8%AB%D8%A7%D9%86-%D9%84%D9%85%D8%B4%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%B9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A5%D8%B3%D9%83%D8%A7%D9%86-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A5%D8%AC%D8%AA%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%B9%D9%89.aspx\">according to a ministry statement<\/a>.
