(Not that it\u2019s been a bad week \u2014 just strangely\u2026long.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Groundwork for El Sisi\u2019s visit to Khartoum: <\/strong>Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will be in Khartoum today for minister-level meetings to lay the groundwork for President Abdel Fattah El Sisi\u2019s visit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MFAEgypt\/posts\/2310775322327734?__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARAyrPWi31MX90AnCW3WH337Jt05GmaTqeTMJnrB7xcecO8wzwBo_T7oSC-nxHk2RmBrSTJtxz-7oCC5mmPTNEXp7uiPe2dHNlwBh-_iDlRyo7vpWXw9b2257ROsznOTQfE1mX_eDl6Z7zG90sngvpaH5_BIw5nzp2y23p7gp6oObpObFTT_EaVK9re540FMIV-_fTQrbK4vHhsrv4ik5Lg&__tn__=-R\">according to Foreign Ministry statement<\/a>. El Sisi will be in Khartoum tomorrow for talks with Sudanese counterpart Omar Al Bashir. Egypt and Sudan are expected to sign the final agreement for the 630 km <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/10\/11\/egypt-sudan-to-begin-railway-connection-project-soon\/\">railway line connecting the two countries<\/a>, Sudan\u2019s Transport Minister Hatem Al Ser said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almalnews.com\/Story\/395384\/58\/%D8%AA%D9%88%D9%82%D9%8A%D8%B9-%D8%AE%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%B7%D8%A9-%D8%B7%D8%B1%D9%8A%D9%82-%D9%84%D9%84%D8%B1%D8%A8%D8%B7-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%83%D9%83%D9%8A-%D8%A8%D9%8A%D9%86-%D9%85%D8%B5%D8%B1-%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%88%D8%AF%D8%A7%D9%86\">according to Al Mal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is volatility coming back? <\/strong>That\u2019s what the pundits would have you believe after \u201cthe S&P 500, Dow industrials and Nasdaq all dropped at least 1% [yesterday] before recovering in another bout of volatility,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/global-stocks-drop-on-political-tensions-worries-over-chinese-growth-1540281268\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>. <strong>What\u2019s going on? <\/strong>The notion that quarterly earnings could weaken in the US\u2014and crude posting its biggest one-day loss since July on \u201cfears that Saudi Arabia could ramp up production as well as questions about whether global petroleum demand could be faltering.\u201d October, the Journal says, \u201chas shaken not just stocks but government bonds, currencies and commodities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Donald Trump has stepped up his attack on US Federal Reserve Chairman Jay Powell. <\/strong>\u201cEvery time we do something great, he raises the interest rates\u2026[Powell] almost looks like he\u2019s happy raising interest rates,\u201d Trump said in an interview with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/trump-steps-up-attacks-on-fed-chairman-jerome-powell-1540338090\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>. \u201cTrump acknowledged the independence the Fed has long enjoyed in setting economic policy, while also making clear he was intentionally sending a direct message to Mr. Powell that he wanted lower interest rates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Volcker is dying. <\/strong>That\u2019s the backdrop for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/10\/23\/business\/dealbook\/paul-volcker-federal-reserve.html\">his wide-ranging (but not long) interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin<\/a>, the founder of the New York Times\u2019 Dealbook and co-creator of the awesome TV show <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sho.com\/billions\">Bns<\/a>. Sorkin sat down with Volcker, the man who as Fed chairman broke the back of runaway inflation in US in the 1970s and early \u201880s, ahead of the release next week of his memoir <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Keeping-At-Quest-Sound-Government-ebook\/dp\/B07DZY3DH3\">Keeping at It: The Quest for Sound Money and Good Government<\/a>. Volcker\u2019s laments (\u201cWe\u2019re in a hell of a mess in every direction\u201d) come across as lively and obliquely prescriptive, not the grumbling of a man in his final days. Worth reading.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-08\"><\/a> ** #8 <strong>Pregnant? You\u2019re helping give birth to Generation Alpha. <\/strong>Forget about Gen X, Millennials and Generation Z. It\u2019s all about Generation Alpha. Or will soon be, marketing and media outfit <a href=\"https:\/\/digiday.com\/marketing\/forget-millennials-gen-alpha\/amp\/\">Digiday suggests<\/a>. Depending on who you listen to, they\u2019re kids born sometime starting 2007-10 \u2014 and some 2.5 mn of them are being born around the world every week. <strong>Gen Alpha is expected to be the longest-living generation as well as the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantthornton.co.uk\/insights\/what-does-the-future-hold-for-generation-alpha\/\"><strong>wealthiest<\/strong><\/a>, according to accounting and consulting outfit Grant Thornton. Where do you fall? Demographers differ on the subtle start and endpoints, but the consensus is something like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gen X: early-1960s to early 1980s <\/li>\n<li>Millennials: early 1980s to mid-1990s<\/li>\n<li>Gen Z: early-to-mid 1990s to early 2000s<\/li>\n<li>Gen Alpha: 2007-2010 and onward<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>And yeah, we feel Gen Z is a bit compressed, too. <\/strong>But the pundits say Gen Alpha is somehow distinct because it\u2019s the first generation to be born entirely in the 2000s, whereas Gen Z stretches back into the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/eg\/iphone-xs\/\"><strong>iPhone XS and XS Max<\/strong><\/a><strong> should be out in Egypt starting today<\/strong> at Apple authorized resellers, we\u2019re told.
