The delegation found that \u201cthe Egyptian economy continued to perform well, despite less favorable global conditions, supported by the authorities\u2019 strong implementation of the reform program,\u201d Lall said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imf.org\/en\/News\/Articles\/2018\/10\/31\/pr18405-imf-team-reaches-staff-level-agreement-on-the-fourth-review-for-egypts-eff\">statement issued yesterday<\/a>. The amount, which brings total payments under the program to USD 10 bn, will be disbursed after the IMF\u2019s executive board signs off on the agreement. Finance Minister Mohamed Maait <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/07\/30\/fifth-imf-loan-tranche-to-be-disbursed-in-early-2019-maait\/\">had previously said<\/a> to expect that to happen in early 2019.<\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s going right: <\/b>Driving the delegation\u2019s decision are strong indicators of a promising outlook, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>improvements in GDP growth levels;<\/li>\n<li>a narrower current account deficit;<\/li>\n<li>lower unemployment rates;<\/li>\n<li>lower government debt levels relative to GDP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The central bank\u2019s tight monetary policy and flexible exchange rate regime are also expected to help<\/b> \u201ccushion [Egypt] against external shocks,\u201d while the government\u2019s fiscal policy is seen \u201ckeeping general government debt on a clearly declining path\u201d to achieve a primary surplus for the first time in years.
