<\/a> #1- More tourism incentives on the way?<\/strong> The Madbouly government is planning to offer up incentives to investors looking to invest in tourism projects that will wrap up construction before June 2026, Tourism Minister Ahmed Issa said yesterday at the ongoing African Tourism Forum<\/a> in Sharm El Sheikh, according to Asharq Business<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The industry is already off to a good start this year<\/strong>, with Isaa telling the forum<\/a> that the country has welcomed 4.6 mn tourists in the four months of the year \u2014 the second highest recorded figure for the period, sitting just below 2010\u2019s peak of 4.7 mn. Tourism revenues hit USD 4.3 bn for the period. <\/p>\n

Remember: <\/strong>Last month, the tourism and finance ministries agreed to launch<\/a> an initiative offering subsidized loans to local and foreign hospitality players looking to set up more hotel rooms across the country. This follows a EGP 50 bn tourism initiative<\/a> greenlit by the cabinet in December offering financial incentives to encourage hospitality players to increase their hotel room capacity. <\/p>\n

<\/a> #2- Enara could make its EGX debut next year: <\/strong>Africa-focused renewables player Enara Group<\/a> plans to dual list on the EGX and a Gulf exchange next year, CEO Sherif El Gabaly told Al Arabiya Business<\/a>, without providing further details. The company is currently being restructured ahead of the listing. <\/p>\n

Refresher:<\/strong> Enara is building a 300k-ton green ammonia plant<\/a> in Ain Sokhna with the French TotalEnergies. Meanwhile, the company\u2019s subsidiary Libra Capital inked an agreement<\/a> in 2022 with the Agricultural Bank of Egypt and the EGX to establish a new company dubbed Libra Carbon for issuing carbon offsets.<\/p>\n

A panel of ICC judges will decide whether or not to accept the prosecutor\u2019s request. <\/p>\n

The US isn\u2019t happy: <\/strong>US President Joe Biden was quick to respond to the news. In a brief statement<\/a>, he called the move \u201coutrageous.\u201d Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is warning of the implications<\/a> of this move, saying that it could jeopardize ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement. <\/p>\n

#2- The death of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi has opened a conversation on the future of the<\/strong> region\u2019s leadership<\/strong>, writes Bloomberg<\/a>. The business information service also points to questions about the health of King Salman, who is currently undergoing treatment<\/a> for a lung inflammation. <\/p>\n

WORTH READING- <\/strong>The AP<\/a> is out with a piece asking \u201cwhat\u2019s next for Iran\u2019s government?\u201d Among the questions is who among the hard-liners could step into the presidency.<\/p>\n

AND IN TECH NEWS- <\/strong>Microsoft announced<\/a> its Copilot+ PCs, which it is billing as \u201cthe fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever built\u201d \u2014 designed for AI, of course, as is the flavor of the day. The device will call on AI to perform tasks such as helping users recall things they have come across on their computer. Look for it to be available starting 18 June.<\/p>\n

The Wall Street Journal\u2019s Joanna Stern is no shill<\/strong>, and she\u2019s impressed, writing that the device \u2014 which she\u2019s had the chance to play with \u2014 left her thinking that \u201cWindows is exciting again.\u201d<\/a> The bottom line: \u201cThey\u2019ve got improved performance, battery life and enhanced AI features.
