It was a quiet night on the talk shows last nig<\/strong>ht,<\/strong> but talk of our EV charging infrastructure made it onto the airwaves.<\/p>\n

There is one charger for every five electric vehicles in Egypt<\/strong>, the CEO of renewables firm Infinity Power Nayer Fouad told Sherif Amer on Yahduth Fi Masr (watch, runtime: 5:02<\/a>). Our friends at Infinity currently have 700 charging outlets spread across 170 stations in 14 governorates, Fouad added. <\/p>\n

But there are obstacles to establishing a fully green network of EV chargers:<\/strong> Fouad pointed to the lack of sustainable energy sources in some areas as one of the reasons, adding that his company ultimately aims to have clean electricity sources in these stations.<\/p>\n

Another challenge lies in low-capacity batteries, <\/strong>according to Fouad. \u201cThe biggest charger we have now has a 90 KW capacity,\u201d Fouad said, adding that they they\u2019ve had 175 KW chargers stored away in warehouses for two years, but \u201cwe can\u2019t set them up\u201d because of either a lack of electrical transformer stations\u2019 support or the high set-up costs charged by distributors \u2014 which can go up to EGP 3 mn per charger.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
