The hikes, which ranged from 8.0% to 21.2%, came after the government\u2019s fuel pricing committee met on Thursday to announce the first price hikes this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptMOP\/posts\/pfbid0H99c6e3AijrsFAfkUT6ntsgN8aV2aJ4C5SSvLmZzVxCmZnnhJkp63dzT5VwFrCkQl\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">prices<\/a><\/strong><strong> of petrol have been hiked by 8-10% <\/strong>at the pumps as of Friday:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>95-Octane is EGP 13.5 per liter<\/strong>, up 8% from EGP 12.5.<\/li>\n<li><strong>92-Octane is EGP 12.5 per liter<\/strong>, up 8.7% from EGP 11.5.<\/li>\n<li><strong>80-Octane is EGP 11 per liter<\/strong>, up 10% from EGP 10.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>But diesel car drivers saw the biggest increase<\/strong>, with prices rising 21.2% to EGP 10 per liter from EGP 8.25.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The price of compressed natural gas for automobiles also rose substantially<\/strong>, increasing 18% to EGP 6.50 per cubic meter, up from EGP 5.5.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>All aboard, at a higher price: <\/strong>Public transport users will also see a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CairoGovernment1\/posts\/pfbid02cpwSR5FdYx69TgCbtX6QDqXzWJHpPbucKy8iwJj8H5Fg8taq4qQptG7fKer7sBm2l\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">price hike<\/a> of EGP 1:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Public bus fares <\/strong>rose to <strong>EGP 7 for regular buses <\/strong>and <strong>EGP 13 for air-conditioned vehicles<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>White taxi meters<\/strong> in Cairo will now start at <strong>EGP 8.5, <\/strong><strong>rising by EGP 4 per<\/strong><strong> km<\/strong>, while in Alexandria, fares will start at <strong>EGP 9.25, rising by EGP 3.25 per km<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Minibus travel <\/strong>will now cost <strong>EGP 10 for distances over 30 km and EGP 9 for shorter distances<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microbus tickets <\/strong>vary between governorates and depend on the length of the trip, with fares <strong>increasing between<\/strong><strong>EGP 0.5 - 1 for the majority of routes<\/strong>. Inter-governorate microbus fares rose roughly 15% distance dependent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>However, train tickets are still on the same track: <\/strong>The government is not looking to increase the prices of railway ticket prices despite the hike in diesel prices costing the network an additional EGP 1.5 bn a
