Good afternoon, folks, and happy Sunday. <\/strong>The week is starting strong with officials in Cairo to try and negotiate for a temporary ceasefire in Palestine. <\/p>\n

THE BIG STORY AT HOME AND ABROAD- <\/strong><\/p>\n

Hamas officials have landed in Cairo to move ahead with ceasefire talks<\/strong> and a hostage swap agreement, senior Hamas official Bassem Naim told NBC News<\/a>. Qatari and Egyptian<\/a> mediators \u2014 but no Israeli delegation \u2014 will be present for talks. The current agreement \u2014 which entails a six-week ceasefire in exchange for the release of sick, elderly, and female hostages \u2014 was accepted by Israel in Paris last week, and is now awaiting a response from Hamas, an Israeli official told the outlet.<\/p>\n

Israel has come under \u201cintense US pressure on all sides\u201d<\/strong> to hammer an agreement before the start of Ramadan, one Israeli official told the news outlet. Israel\u2019s killing spree of over 100 Gazans awaiting aid has not impacted progress on talks, they added. <\/p>\n

Shallow humanitarian attempts from the US: <\/strong>The US completed its first airdrop of aid, comprising 38k meals, to Gaza yesterday in response to Israel\u2019s massacre of over 100 Palestinians<\/a> awaiting aid last week. \u201cThe truth is \u2026 that the aid flowing into Gaza is nowhere near enough and nowhere near fast enough\u201d for the 2.3 mn people displaced and on the verge of famine in the besieged enclave, a senior administration official told reporters cited in the Washington Post<\/a>. The Israeli military hailed the gesture, saying that the airdrop \u201cmakes the fighting possible,\u201d NBC News added. <\/p>\n
