The Grand Egyptian Museum is dominating the conversation on Egypt <\/strong>in the international press this morning as Tourism Ministry Ahmed Issa\u2019s suggestion that the site could be open to visitors by next May. <\/p>\n

Issa told <\/strong>CNN\u2019s Richard Quest<\/a><\/strong> we can expect the official opening of the GEM \u201cprobably <\/strong>between February and May\u201d <\/strong>of 2024, saying, \u201cWe\u2019re focused on the final touches \u2014 on lighting and audio guides. We\u2019ve inspected the ticketing and security systems. I think we\u2019re advancing very quickly and within the next couple of months we\u2019ll be able to get some tourists in \u2014 in terms of soft opening to test the systems. The official opening day will probably be between February and May.\u201d<\/p>\n

The museum is getting tons of ink in the global art and design press<\/strong>, with Architectural<\/a>Digest<\/a>, ArtNews<\/a>, and The Collector<\/a> all taking note. It\u2019s also getting ink in the travel<\/a> and construction<\/a> trade media.<\/p>\n

Also on the tourism front: <\/strong>Egypt was named one of <\/strong>Lonely Planet<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s<\/strong> top 50 travel <\/strong>destinations for 2024.<\/strong> Meanwhile, a British inquest has found that a UK couple on holiday here died of carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the BBC<\/a>. <\/p>\n
