President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed efforts to end the civil war <\/strong> in Sudan with the country\u2019s army chief <\/strong> and de facto ruler General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan in El Alamein yesterday. A statement<\/a> from Ittihadiya provided little information about the substance of the talks.<\/p>\n

No mention of negotiations or a ceasefire: <\/strong> Neither Ittihadiya nor Al Burhan made reference to restarting peace talks with the Rapid Support Forces, though in a post-meeting presser<\/a> the Sudanese general did express keenness for finding a solution to ending the war. In an uncompromising speech ahead of his trip to Egypt, Al Burhan vowed to defeat the paramilitary group<\/a> on the battlefield, accusing them of betraying the Sudanese people. This came a day after RSF leader General Mohamed Hamdan \u201cHemedti\u201d Dagalo voiced support for restarting ceasefire talks.<\/p>\n

Next up: <\/strong> Al Burhan is expected to visit Saudi Arabia, which has sponsored several rounds of ceasefire talks alongside the US.<\/p>\n
