Nassar gave no details of his ministry\u2019s policy for the auto industry beyond suggesting that it would \u201cattract foreign investment\u201d and encourage the development of the market for electric vehicles. Nassar\u2019s comments on the automotive directive came<b> before <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/enterprise.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/trade-ministry-KIA-1.pdf\"><b>he attended the opening<\/b><\/a><b> of a new assembly line by Kia<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Background:<\/b> The minister\u2019s statement confirms our <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/07\/30\/govt-plans-to-scrap-automotive-directive-and-will-replace-it-with-special-zones\/\">reporting this summer<\/a> that the ministry was planning to scrap to the automotive directive in favor of a more limited approach. Local assemblers and international car manufacturers have been pushing for clarity on the ministry\u2019s policy for the industry.<\/p>\n<p><b>Nassar says all is well with the auto sector:<\/b> Nassar\u2019s remarks came as the ministry said it was <b>in talks with unnamed global automotive manufacturers<\/b> to set up car assembly facilities in Egypt. The ministry expects to be able to say more in about two months\u2019 time, it suggested in <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2018\/12\/1985.pdf\">a statement on Sunday (pdf)<\/a>. Foreign manufacturers have said they have placed on hold new investment in Egypt until the ministry strategy for the sector is clear. Japanese outfits have been particularly vocal on the issue <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/04\/17\/future-investments-in-egypt-from-nissan-toyota-ride-on-the-automotive-directive\/\">since spring<\/a>.
