Out of nowhere, it seems, a former student opens fire on his high school campus, murdering a faculty member \u2014 Mr Spearman, the geography teacher \u2014 before being shot down himself by one of the sheriff\u2019s deputies. But this supposedly unexpected act of deranged violence opened a Pandora\u2019s box that reveals Charon County\u2019s true colors: When the authorities seize the beloved geography teacher\u2019s belongings and what Titus Crown finds in Spearman\u2019s phone leaves him reeling from the atrocity of what he discovers.
