<\/a> Moody\u2019s has upgraded Egypt\u2019s credit rating to B2 with a stable outlook<\/b> from B3 with a positive outlook, the ratings agency<\/a> said in a statement. The agency said that the country\u2019s ongoing commitment to reform will gradually improve the government\u2019s fiscal position and stimulate economic growth. Stronger state finances, together with the country\u2019s banking sector, will mitigate the effects of external financing shocks.<\/p>\n

Moody\u2019s changed its outlook to stable due to what it described as \u201cweak debt affordability and large financing needs.\u201d<\/b> It described Egypt\u2019s fiscal position as \u201cvery weak\u201d compared to other countries, and forecast interest payments to continue eating up almost 45% of the government\u2019s revenue going forward.<\/p>\n

Egypt\u2019s debt will continue to ease on the back of strong economic growth and falling inflation<\/b>, Moody\u2019s said, adding that the Sisi administration\u2019s commitment to reforms could produce greater-than-expected economic growth, while the narrowing of the current account deficit may also beat expectations if natural gas exports pick up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
