Export another flurry of corporate results as companies look to get their numbers in by today\u2019s formal deadline to file their 2Q figures. <\/p>\n

MEANWHILE- Gov\u2019t intervenes on cigarette shortage as prices surge: <\/strong>The government is working to up raw materials shipments to state-owned tobacco maker Eastern Company to ease a shortage of cigarettes, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said at a meeting yesterday with the public enterprise and finance ministers, according to a cabinet statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Remember: <\/strong> Merchants have hiked prices of locally-produced cigarettes in recent weeks in response to the shortages. Eastern Company boss Hany Aman said last week<\/a> that the company is increasing the daily quantity of cigarettes it delivers to the market and called on retailers to stick to official prices. <\/p>\n

HAPPENING TODAY- <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a> Egypt + Syria FMs to hold talks in Egypt: <\/strong>Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will meet his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad today in Cairo, Al Arabiya<\/a> reports, citing an Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement. Further information about what\u2019s on the agenda wasn\u2019t disclosed.<\/p>\n

<\/a> Tansik <\/strong> : <\/strong> Prospective students can apply to universities online from today through to 19 August here<\/a>, the Higher Education Ministry said<\/a> yesterday.<\/p>\n

<\/a> Another two-and-a-half months of the National Dialogue? <\/strong> The National Dialogue\u2019s board of trustees is aiming to finalize the recommendations and submit them to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi by the beginning of November ahead of the presidential election, according to Ahram Gate<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the Dialogue\u2019s agenda today: <\/strong>The dialogue will hold closed-door meetings today to discuss recommendations on fiscal reforms including public debt and budget deficit, it said<\/a> yesterday.<\/p>\n

HAPPENING THIS WEEK- <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a> Bidding opens for new industrial land plots on Wednesday: <\/strong>Investors will be able to bid for industrial land from Wednesday, 16 August, through Wednesday, 27 September, under a new phase of the Industrial Development Authority\u2019s (IDA) investment map, according to the authority's website<\/a>. Some 1.7 mn sqm of land across 14 governorates will be offered to industrial investors in the authority\u2019s first land auction since December<\/a>. The entire bidding process will take place on IDA\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

<\/a> Export subsidy payouts: <\/strong> The Finance Ministry will pay out a third batch of<\/a> export subsidies<\/a> under the sixth of the program on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The ministry has so far paid out EGP 8 bn to over 800 companies during the current phase.<\/p>\n

THE BIG STORY ABROAD- <\/strong><\/p>\n

(Yet) another indictment for The Donald? <\/strong> An anticipated fourth indictment against Donald Trump is all over the headlines this morning after a Georgia grand jury weighed whether to bring charges against the former president for allegedly attempting to overturn his loss in the state in the 2020 election.<\/p>\n

The jury returned at least one indictment overnight, though it remains clear who it is against<\/strong>. The Fulton County court earlier published a document (pdf)<\/a> laying out several criminal charges but swiftly deleted it; the District Attorney\u2019s office said in a statement that no charges had been filed against the former president. ALSO- <\/strong>Saudi Arabia and UAE race to buy Nvidia chips to power AI ambitions<\/a><\/strong> , <\/strong> in the Financial Times, where the salmon-colored paper notes that the two are buying up \u201cthousands of GPUs amid a global shortage of semiconductors needed to build large language models.\u201d<\/p>\n
