We have a full breakdown in this morning\u2019s Speed Round.<\/p>\n<p><b>Also coming up this week:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A delegation of <b>21 Hungarian companies will arrive in Cairo tomorrow<\/b> to explore investment options.<\/li>\n<li>The two-day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metalbulletin.com\/events\/north-africa-iron-and-steel-conference\/details.html\"><b>North Africa Iron and Steel Conference<\/b><\/a> also gets underway tomorrow at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza, also on Tuesday.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-01-14\/opec-leaves-market-guessing-as-it-struggles-to-set-meeting-date\"><b>OPEC+ oil ministers will meet<\/b><\/a>in Vienna on 17-18 April to discuss an extension to the oil supply cuts.<\/li>\n<li><b>Keep a close eye on US and European corporate earnings this week.<\/b> The pundits expect an \u201cearnings recession,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/04\/12\/investing-earnings-recession-means-time-to-buy-stocks-blackstone.html\">CNBC<\/a> writes, but Blackstone says it is still bullish on stocks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><b>Meet Marshall Stocker, serial Egypt investor, former Cairo resident, author and portfolio manager at Eaton Vance:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-04-14\/seeking-a-turnaround-story-one-investor-returns-to-egypt\">Bloomberg<\/a> sat down to talk with the investor who was tempted back to the country by the ongoing economic reform story. Stocker, the business information service suggests, \u201chas outperformed 93% of his peers\u201d \u2014 and he\u2019s now Cairo newbie. He lived here in Omm El Donia in 2010-12 and is the author of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dont-Stand-Under-Tree-Rains-ebook\/dp\/B00DKD50C2\/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=\">Don\u2019t Stand Under a Tree When It Rains<\/a>, a memoir of his time in the capital city. We haven\u2019t read it, but it\u2019s now in our TBR pile.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Financial Times is making us pay attention (and wish we had hair to tear out)<\/b> this morning:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-08\"><\/a> <b>Why do the best and brightest EM companies sell shares elsewhere? <\/b>Emerging and frontier markets account for two-thirds of global GDP growth and three quarters of FX reserves. We have 85% of the world\u2019s population \u2014 and twenty four of the planet\u2019s 30 largest cities. But, the FT tells us, <b>EM and frontier countries accounted for barely 12% of the world\u2019s \u201cinvestable market capitalization\u201d<\/b> at the end of last year. If you lead a publicly traded company or are an investor relations professional, you want to read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/06f93d5c-5157-11e9-b401-8d9ef1626294\">Financial Times story<\/a> or the PwC and Economist Intelligence Unit study on global capital markets in 2030 on which it is based (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pwc.com\/gx\/en\/services\/audit-assurance\/publications\/capital-markets-in-2030.html\">landing page here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pwc.com\/gx\/en\/audit-services\/capital-market\/publications\/capital-markets-2030.pdf\">pdf report here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"web-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/4\/1932.jpg?ssl=1\"><\/p>\n<p><b>If you\u2019re a trader, you could well be facing your own personal \u201cMinority Report\u201d moment. <\/b>That\u2019s the only possible takeaway from a breathless FT piece that declares: \u201c<b>Imagine if you could stop rogue trading when it was just the spark of an idea \u2014 a stray thought sparked by a trader\u2019s expensive divorce<\/b> \u2026 or growing disillusionment with the daily grind. Imagine if, instead of being bogged down in 10,000 emails [for keywords], compliance teams could instead detect changes in tone and other subtle tics that show a trader\u2019s behaviour is changing.\u201d Go read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/be7a5584-2ee7-11e9-80d2-7b637a9e1ba1\">Banks use AI to catch rogue traders before the act<\/a>. It\u2019s not just the fun that\u2019s being beaten out of the job \u2014 now it\u2019s the humanity, too.<\/p>\n<p><b>The only catch, as Minority Report hammered over and over: Robots ain\u2019t perfect. <\/b>\u201cAlthough computers may be more reliable than humans, new mistakes can be introduced into systems,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/f96478e0-59e0-11e9-939a-341f5ada9d40\">FT<\/a> tells us elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p><b>Please purge this word from your vocabulary before we have to hurt someone: <\/b>In our final dig this morning at the FT (which, as longtime readers know, we generally adore): Can someone please have a word with the headline writers over there? On behalf of everyone else who calls this continent home, <b>kindly be notified that we do not wish the term <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/ac7263f0-5d26-11e9-9dde-7aedca0a081a\"><b>\u201czebracorn\u201d<\/b><\/a><b> to become a thing.<\/b> That is all.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><b>Other things that should be on your radar this morning:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Mohamed El Erian suggests what we\u2019re going through this year is \u201cnot a synchronized slowdown.<\/b> Synchronized slowdown suggests that countries feed onto each other and the whole thing starts coming down in a violent fashion,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/04\/12\/mohamed-el-erian-on-federal-reserve-us-economy-growth-divergence.html\">told CNBC<\/a> in an appearance in which he also suggested that the US Federal Reserve may have gone from being \u201ctoo hawkish\u201d to \u201ctoo dovish.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Ebola is back.<\/b> Judging from the growing number of headlines in the past week (examples <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/in-new-ebola-outbreak-heath-care-workers-come-under-attack-11555260780\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/health\/congo-ebola-explainer-1.5097156\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.reuters.com\/article\/health-ebola-congo-decision\/who-opts-not-to-label-congo-ebola-outbreak-an-international-emergency-idUKL8N21U526\">here<\/a>), it is once more about to become something the media thinks we should be worried about.<\/li>\n<li><b>The \u201ceconomic chill gripping Dubai\u201d in five charts<\/b> zeroes in on cancelled business licenses, falling internet lines for businesse, lower growth in the number of school busses, falling real estate sales and stagnant tourism numbers.
