El Sisi met yesterday with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The two are believed to have discussed regional issues including developments in Libya, Syria, Palestine and Yemen, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.almasryalyoum.com\/news\/details\/1386241\">according to Al Masry Al Youm<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n<p><b>The US media is piling on the pressure<\/b> ahead of today\u2019s meeting, as we note in this morning\u2019s Egypt in the News, below.<\/p>\n<p><b>Renaissance Capital\u2019s annual Egypt Investors Conference <\/b>gets underway this morning in Cape Town. EGX Chairman Mohamed Farid will deliver the keynote address on expanding the role of capital markets in Egypt\u2019s economy. <u><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2019\/4\/2904.pdf\">Tap or click here to view the preliminary agenda for the event (pdf)<\/a><\/u>, which wraps up tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><b>It is election day in Israel <\/b>as our neighbors to the east head to the polls to decide whether right-wing Likud Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gets a fifth term in office. He faces a stiff challenge from centrist Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz, a former chief of staff for the Israeli armed forces. Results should start coming in at 9pm CLT. Expect much scrambling to form a coalition government \u2014 no single party in Israel has ever won a majority mandate.<\/p>\n<p><b>Reading tea leaves in Sudan:<\/b> Soldiers in at least one incident have moved to protect protestors demonstrating against President Omar Al Bashir, a signal that media outlets including the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/d43c81aa-5a05-11e9-9dde-7aedca0a081a\">the FT<\/a><\/u> and <u><a href=\"http:\/\/english.ahram.org.eg\/NewsContent\/2\/8\/329650\/World\/Region\/Omar-AlBashir-to-step-down-%E2%80%98soon%E2%80%99,-army-looks-for-.aspx\">Ahram Online<\/a><\/u> (citing sources in Sudan) are reading like proverbial tea leaves.<\/p>\n<p><b>Other news triggers to keep your eyes on<\/b> in the coming days:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Monthly inflation figures<\/b> are due out tomorrow. Annual headline inflation accelerated to 14.4% in <u><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/03\/11\/inflation-back-on-the-rise-throwing-continued-easing-cycle-to-doubt\/\">February<\/a><\/u>, up from 12.7% the previous month. The expectation, as we noted last week, is for corporate earnings in the US and Europe to fall in 1Q for the first time since 2016.<\/li>\n<li>The House of Representatives will vote on the<b> proposed constitutional amendments<\/b> on Tuesday, 16 April.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"web-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/4\/1272.jpg?ssl=1\"><\/p>\n<p><b>A bad sign for upcoming tech IPOs as Pinterest IPO goes to market below last valuation:<\/b> Social media company Pinterest will sell 75 mn shares at a price between USD 15-17 in its IPO later this year, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1506293\/000119312519099828\/d697629ds1a.htm\">according to a regulatory filing<\/a><\/u>. This would value the company at around USD 11.3 bn. The IPO price is a significant discount from the USD 21.54 share price in its last fundraising round in 2017. The move could be \u201can ominous sign\u201d for other upcoming tech listings (including Uber, Slack and Zoom) that investor interest is waning, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/7c4fb5cc-59ea-11e9-9dde-7aedca0a081a\">the Financial Times says<\/a><\/u>. The decision to IPO below the company\u2019s prior valuation may have been influenced by Lyft\u2019s recent IPO, whose share price fell substantially after listing, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/pinterest-is-expected-to-set-ipo-price-range-below-last-valuation-11554689836\">the WSJ suggests<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n<p>On the subject of IPOs, <b>UAE-based payments and FX company <\/b><b><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.finablr.com\/\">Finablr<\/a><\/u><\/b><b> will list on the London Stock Exchange today<\/b> in a move that could generate USD 500 mn, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/egyptNews\/idAFL8N21Q5I0\">sources told Reuters<\/a><\/u>.
