Annual headline inflation accelerated to 14.4% in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/03\/11\/inflation-back-on-the-rise-throwing-continued-easing-cycle-to-doubt\/\">February<\/a>, up from 12.7% the previous month.<\/li>\n<li><b>The IMF and World Bank are holding their <a href=\"https:\/\/meetings.imf.org\/en\/2019\/Spring\">spring meetings<\/a><\/b> on 12-14 April in Washington, DC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Also coming up: First quarter earnings season, and you want to pay attention to US and European numbers <\/b>as much as you do results from our corner of the world. EFG Hermes is predicting a 0.7% year-on-year decline in first quarter earnings across the MENA region, with the strongest earnings growth coming from Kuwait (+13.1%), Egypt (+6.4%) and the UAE (+5.9%). We\u2019re looking at contractions in Saudi and Qatar. <b>Financials will lead growth<\/b>, the firm writes, while materials will lead the decline (down a third) and telecoms will be flat.<\/p>\n<p><b>The FT, meanwhile, is keeping a close eye on US results<\/b>, noting that the ongoing rally in markets suggests investors are \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/b85d9cf4-563f-11e9-91f9-b6515a54c5b1\">looking well beyond forecasts of negative earnings growth for the first quarter<\/a> for US and Europan companies.\u201d The salmon-colored paper writes that the S&P 500 is expected to turn in a 3.9% drop in earnings this quarter and then no growth in 2Q.
