The package includes changes that would lengthen presidential terms and restore the upper house of parliament.<\/p>\n<p><b>Among the domestic events and news triggers <\/b>you can expect in the next couple of days:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>AmCham\u2019s Doorknock lobbying tour of Washington, DC, continues <\/b>until Friday. We have a report from the road in today\u2019s Speed Round, below.<\/li>\n<li><b>The Markit \/ Emirates NBD purchasing managers\u2019 index for March <\/b>is expected tomorrow. The index, which surveys non-oil business activity in Egypt, fell to a 17-month low in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/03\/06\/egypts-non-oil-business-activity-falls-to-17-month-low-pmi\/\">last month\u2019s reading<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>The CBE\u2019s net foreign reserves position <\/b>is due out sometime this week. Reserves climbed to USD 44.060 bn <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/03\/05\/egypts-fx-reserves-reach-usd-44-060-bn-at-end-february\/\">at the end of February<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Egypt\u2019s monthly inflation figures<\/b>, from both the central bank and CAPMAS, are expected on 10 April. Annual headline inflation accelerated to 14.4% in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/03\/11\/inflation-back-on-the-rise-throwing-continued-easing-cycle-to-doubt\/\">February<\/a>, up from 12.7% the previous month.<\/li>\n<li><b>Renaissance Capital\u2019s annual Egypt Investors Conference in Cape Town<\/b> on 9-10 April. EGX Chairman Mohamed Farid will deliver the keynote address on expanding the role of capital markets in Egypt\u2019s economy. <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2019\/4\/2904.pdf\">Tap or click here to view the preliminary agenda for the event (pdf)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The IMF isn\u2019t going full doom-and-gloom but it\u2019s not exactly optimistic either:<\/b> Global growth is \u201closing momentum,\u201d fund Director Christine Largade has said ahead of the IMF and World Bank <a href=\"https:\/\/meetings.imf.org\/en\/2019\/Spring\">spring meetings<\/a> on 12-14 April. Speaking at the US Chamber of Commerce HQ in DC, Lagarde warned that growth prospects are being put in a \u201cprecarious\u201d position by Brexit and US-China trade friction. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/imf-worldbank-lagarde\/imfs-lagarde-says-global-growth-outlook-precarious-amid-trade-tensions-idUSL1N21J1S2\">Reuters<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/04\/02\/lagarde-global-economy-in-a-delicate-moment-and-losing-momentum.html\">CNBC<\/a> have more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"web-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-04-01\/think-lyft-sell-off-is-bad-wait-till-short-sellers-enter-fray\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/4\/514.jpg?ssl=1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Lyft is crashing:<\/b> Newly-listed ride-hailing company Lyft is going to need investors to \u201ctake a big leap of faith\u201d to support its current valuation, which has already fallen 22% from its post-IPO high, Seaport Global analyst Michael Ward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-04-02\/lyft-s-stock-valuation-requires-a-leap-of-faith-analyst-says\">tells Bloomberg<\/a>. Shares <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2019\/04\/01\/lyft-plunges-below-ipo-price-sending-cautionary-message-other-unicorns\/?utm_term=.b4d18cccd2fb\">rose by almost 25%<\/a> to USD 88.68 when the company began trading last Friday, but plummeted 12% on Monday over concerns about the company\u2019s profitability. The stock was down slightly at the close of play yesterday, remaining beneath its USD 72 initial offering price. What\u2019s going on? <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/04\/01\/early-lyft-investors-are-betting-on-the-new-stock-falling\/\">Investors are shorting the stock<\/a> to get around lockup periods and it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-04-01\/think-lyft-sell-off-is-bad-wait-till-short-sellers-enter-fray\">may get worse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>The bigger question here is<\/b> what effect Lyft\u2019s rough opening week will have on the other tech unicorns preparing to IPO. The listing is regarded by some as a test case for Uber, Pinterest and Slack, which are all planning to go public later this year. \u201cThis is a major gut check time for Lyft and the tech IPO world to see how this stock trades given it was the first one out of the box,\u201d Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives wrote to clients yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><b>But bitcoin is spiking: <\/b>The cryptocurrency hit a five-month high of USD 5,080 yesterday, prompting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/sudden-bitcoin-price-breakout-sets-new-bull-target-at-over-5k\">Coindesk<\/a> to suggest that the bear market for bitcoin is over \u2014 and that the \u201ccase for a longer-term bull market\u201d is starting to look solid. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-04-02\/bitcoin-s-sudden-jump-propels-cryptocurrency-above-5-000\">Bloomberg<\/a> says the \u201cmysterious surge\u201d in the currency yesterday comes after three months of calm and cites an analyst at blockchain investment and advisory firm Kinetic Capital as saying, \u201cI don\u2019t think today is anything special\u201d because the \u201csmall\u201d market is \u201cemotional\u201d and \u201cstill very much subject to waves of enthusiasm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"web-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/4\/214.jpeg?ssl=1\"><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-07\"><\/a> <b>A16Z isn\u2019t a VC firm anymore. <\/b>Have you noticed that weird disclaimer that suddenly appeared at the start of Andreessen Horowitz\u2019s podcast? It may have something to do with the fact that A16Z isn\u2019t venture capital firm anymore. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/alexkonrad\/2019\/04\/02\/andreessen-horowitz-is-blowing-up-the-venture-capital-model-again\/\">In his first long-form interview in two years<\/a> \u2014 with Forbes, of all places \u2014 co-founder Marc Andreessen says the firm is registering all of its employees as financial advisors and accepting a lot of new regulatory insight, including from the US Financial Industry Regulatory Agency.<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is the firm that (re)defined what it means to be a VC in the modern era monkeying with its business model?<\/b> To have more latitude to invest in things other than private companies \u2014 including cryptocurrency assets and publicly traded stocks. Writes The Information on the change, \u201cthe shakeup could be a way for the firm to adapt to a more competitive landscape in venture capital, in which a growing number of funds chase after the same unicorns. It also could mean that Andreessen Horowitz sees a competitive advantage in making bigger [plays] on cryptocurrencies as some VCs avoid investing directly in tokens. Bouteflika served as the country\u2019s president since 1999 and was seeking his fifth term in office when anti-government protestors took to the streets to demand an end to his rule.<\/p>\n<p><b>What happens now?<\/b> Your guess is as good as ours, quite frankly, as it remains to be seen whether Bouteflika\u2019s resignation will pacify the crowds and how the state intends on transferring power.
