US State Department issues scathing report on Egypt\u2019s human rights record:<\/b> The US State Department\u2019s Egypt 2018 Human Rights Report (pdf)<\/a>charges that Egypt has committed a wide range of human rights violations. The 55-page report provided detailed accounts of each category, blaming authorities for \u201cinconsistently [punishing] or [prosecuting] officials who committed abuses,\u201d and failing to \u201ccomprehensively investigate allegations of human rights abuses.\u201d The Egypt report is part of State\u2019s annual human rights reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Foreign Ministry isn\u2019t pleased with the State Department\u2019s assessment, <\/b>issuing a statement<\/a> saying the report is laden with \u201cunsubstantiated claims.\u201d Besides relying on \u201cfalse information\u201d collected through NGOs motivated by \u201cpolitical agendas,\u201d the report makes no mention of the government\u2019s efforts to improve human rights, the statement notes.
