We take stock of the agreements signed <\/b>during the French president\u2019s three-day visit to Egypt, accompanied by a high-profile business delegation:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-05\"><\/a> <b>Elsewedy Electric, France\u2019s MND partner on cable transport: <\/b>Elsewedy Electric and French industrial group Montagne et Neige D\u00e9veloppement (MND) announced that they are forming a consortium to develop urban cable transportation in Egypt, <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2019\/1\/2711.pdf\">according to an emailed statement (pdf)<\/a>. The consortium aims to develop cable transportation as both a solution to intractable urban transportation problems and a way to further enhance access to tourist sites across the country, the statement read. The consortium is already in talks with local authorities over several projects. \u201cThe challenges in cities and touristic areas are important in a country like Egypt that has in 2018 more than 97 mn inhabitants, and who will reach 20 mn tourists per year in 2020,\u201d said CEO Ahmed Elsewedy. \u201cCable transport is one of the mobility solutions that is the most adapted to this demographic dynamic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Schneider Electric is investing EUR 35 mn in Egypt in 2019<\/b>, focused primarily on its east Cairo factory as it looks to double its production capacity by June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almalnews.com\/Story\/408891\/59\/%C2%AB%D8%B4%D9%86%D8%A7%D9%8A%D8%AF%D8%B1-%D8%A5%D9%84%D9%8A%D9%83%D8%AA%D8%B1%D9%8A%D9%83%C2%BB-%D8%AA%D8%B1%D9%81%D8%B9-%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%AA%D8%AB%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%AA%D9%87%D8%A7-%D9%81%D9%89-%D9%85%D8%B5%D8%B1-%D8%A5%D9%84%D9%89-315-%D9%85%D9%84%D9%8A%D9%88%D9%86-%D9%8A%D9%88%D8%B1%D9%88\">a company official told Al Mal<\/a>. The French company, which currently exports about 30% of the factory\u2019s production, wants to double exports as it <b>uses Egypt as a regional export hub<\/b>. Schneider Electric is also in talks with Russia\u2019s Rosatom to provide electric equipment to the planned nuclear power plant in Dabaa.<\/p>\n<p><b>Insurance provider AXA Egypt has also pledged EGP 1 bn of long-term investment <\/b>in the healthcare sector on the back of a memorandum signed yesterday with the Health Ministry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axa-egypt.com\/documents\/217701\/219130\/AXA+MoU+PRLs_En+29.01.19.pdf\/269860ab-7193-ae45-72a9-bca3455593ea\">the company said in a press release (pdf)<\/a>. The company gave no specifics on the investments.<\/p>\n<p><b>Cairo Metro Line 3 contracts signed: <\/b>The National Authority for Tunnels signed the initial contract for the operation and maintenance of Cairo Metro Line 3 with France\u2019s RATP Dev, according to an emailed statement. <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/01\/22\/egypt-to-inaugurate-phase-one-of-metro-line-4-on-25-january-2\/\">Line 3 currently consists of nine stations<\/a>, with a planned expansion to include a total of 13. The inauguration of the four-station Line 4 was planned for 25 January.<\/p>\n<p><b>Misr Insurance Holding Company (MIHC) also signed yesterday an MoU with France\u2019s <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.behqe.com\/cerway\"><b>Cerway<\/b><\/a> \u201cto support the quality of refurbishment projects in Cairo\u2019s city center \u2026 and enhancing the quality of MIHC\u2019s distinguished real estate portfolio,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:6495708167140319232\/\">MIHC Chairman Basel El Hini said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Orange Egypt and Valeo Egypt <\/b>were among the French CIT companies that signed agreements on training with the state\u2019s ITIDA, <a href=\"https:\/\/alborsaanews.com\/2019\/01\/29\/1173434\">the domestic press reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>More from Orange: <\/b>Orange, a high-profile sponsor of this summer\u2019s African Cup of Nations, had global boss St\u00e9phane Richard in town for the delegation.
