There were many pickups<\/a> of wire reports on the news that Egypt accused the UN of being politically motivated in its calls for an investigation into Morsi\u2019s death. Reuters<\/a>, WSJ<\/a> and Bloomberg<\/a> are reporting that Turkey\u2019s cry-baby-in-chief is demanding that the Egyptian government be tried in international courts, while the BBC<\/a> is asking questions after Extra News TV\u2019s Noha Darwish mistakenly read, \u201cThis was sent from a Samsung device\u201d on the teleprompter while covering the story.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the editorial board of the <\/b>Washington Post<\/b><\/a> has little that\u2019s good to say<\/b> about the former president, but nevertheless calls his death \u201ccruel and unjust\u201d and suggests it shows how far we, as a nation, have \u201cregressed.\u201d Steven Cook tells us in Foreign Policy<\/a> that our refusal to get involved in regional conflicts makes us \u201cirrelevant\u201d on the world stage, saying, \u201cMorsi\u2019s truncated presidency and death underline Egypt\u2019s abject and terminal mediocrity on the world stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

The other big topic: Afcon 2019.<\/b> Reuters is laying the negativity on thick<\/a> by expecting that the heavy security andthe CAF corruption scandal<\/a> will cloud Afcon\u2019s opening on Friday, in spite of hopes that the tournament\u2019s expansion to include 24 teams and switch to mid-year hosting would help to draw positive international attention to African football.<\/p>\n
