<\/a> STARTUP WATCH- It was a good week for tech startups: <\/b>Cairo Technology Week<\/a> and the Seamless North Africa conference<\/a>, which both took place this week, saw lots of startups (most of them early stage ventures) in the spotlight. Among the highlights:<\/p>\n

Paynas wins first prize at Seamless North Africa 2019:<\/b> Egyptian fintech startup Paynas<\/a> took home first place for its pitch at the Seamless North Africa conference this week, according to an emailed statement (pdf)<\/a>. The company, which provides a cloud-based platform used to manage banking, HR, and employee benefits, walked away with USD 50k after going head-to-head with four other startups.<\/p>\n

Flat6Labs Cairo graduated eight new startups at its first cycle of 2019<\/b>, the startup accelerator said in a statement (pdf)<\/a>. Graduates are in sectors including virtual reality, legaltech and logistics, manufacturing, software as a service), hardware and education and wellness. They are: VRapeutic, Untap, Illa, Agrona, Elmetr, Instadiet, Tyro and Interact.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, three Egypt-based startups have been selected to participate in the four-month <\/b>Womentum Accelerator<\/b><\/a> program, <\/b>run by Womena and Standard Chartered, Disrupt Africa reports<\/a>. Participating startups from Egypt include FreshSource<\/a>, which connects small-scale farmers to the value chain, Chefaa, an AI-powered<\/a> platform for buying pharma products, and pas-sport<\/a>, a platform that connects athletes with sports scholarships at universities globally.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
