We\u2019re all getting a little antsy in anticipation of the long Eid El Fitr weekend, which could start on Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on how hopeful you are.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, a few things we\u2019ll be keeping our eyes on over the next several days:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Foreign reserves:<\/b> The CBE should announce Egypt\u2019s net foreign reserves for the end of May next week.<\/li>\n<li><b>Inflation:<\/b> Monthly inflation figures will be released during the second week of the month. Annual headline inflation <b><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/05\/12\/egypts-annual-inflation-falls-to-13\/\">cooled unexpectedly in April<\/a><\/b> to 13% from 14.2% in March. <\/li>\n<li><b>PMI:<\/b> The purchasing managers\u2019 index for Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE is due out on Monday, 10 June at 6:15am CLT. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><b>Across the pond, the news cycle is driven by US special counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s resignation while giving his first public comments<\/b> about his two-year investigation into potential Russian interference in the 2016 US elections. Mueller reiterated that his investigation neither fully exonerated US President Donald Trump nor confirmed he was involved in criminally conspiring with the Russians. More importantly, however, he stressed that it was never within his power to charge the president with any crimes, essentially placing that responsibility squarely in Congress\u2019 lap.<\/p>\n<p><b>Still playing catch-up with the whole story?<\/b> The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/mueller-to-make-first-public-comment-on-russia-probe-11559137275\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-trump-russia\/mueller-says-he-could-not-charge-trump-as-congress-weighs-impeachment-idUSKCN1SZ1OC\">Reuters<\/a> have the facts. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2019\/05\/29\/muellers-statement-annotated-if-we-had-confidence-that-president-clearly-did-not-commit-crime-we-would-have-said-so\/?utm_term=.9397f7cdc42f#annotations:17276203\">Washington Post<\/a> also has a nice annotation of Mueller\u2019s comments to provide context and explanations on key parts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"web-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/5c506164-8185-11e9-9935-ad75bb96c849\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/5\/1399.jpg?ssl=1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-07\"><\/a> <b>The odds of a double Fed rate-cut in 2019 are back on the rise:<\/b> Federal funds futures \u2014 contracts that gauge the market\u2019s expectation of an interest rate change \u2014 have risen sharply this week, as concerns over an economic slowdown grow, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/5c506164-8185-11e9-9935-ad75bb96c849\">the FT says.<\/a> The probability that the US Federal Reserve will make two cuts before the end of the year rose above 40% yesterday, beating expectations for a single cut for the first time. Bond investors also seem to see the rates coming down, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/05\/29\/upshot\/the-bond-market-is-giving-ominous-warnings-about-the-global-economy.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage&section=Business\">the New York Times notes<\/a>, pointing to the inverted yield curve as being the source of much doom and gloom.<\/p>\n<p><b>This is the last thing traders need:<\/b> The financial press was full of speculation yesterday over whether China might resort to one of its nuclear options and ban rare earth exports to the US. China exports 80% of the planet\u2019s rare earth minerals, which are vital for production in the energy, defense, automobiles and electronics sectors. Chinese media have been enthusiastically<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-trade-china-rareearth\/china-ready-to-hit-back-at-u-s-with-rare-earths-ruling-party-newspaper-idUSKCN1SZ07V\">talking up the idea<\/a>, which if enforced would spell trouble for companies working in key economic sectors. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/05\/29\/rare-earth-miners-shares-rise-after-china-threatens-to-cut-off-supply.html\">At least the miners are happy<\/a>.
