We know that it\u2019s only been a little over three weeks since Eid, but that seems like a long time ago now \u2014 especially with the heat in the capital making us all wish that we were somewhere cooler.<\/p>\n<p><b>It was a busy weekend for international politics, as global leaders gathered in Osaka<\/b>, Japan, for the annual G20 summit. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended the event, where he represented the African Union. We have more in this morning\u2019s Diplomacy + Foreign Trade, below.<\/p>\n<p><b>We\u2019re officially into the second half of 2019 <\/b>\u2014 and with a brand new month we have plenty of news triggers coming up over the next several days:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Foreign reserves:<\/b> The CBE is due to release Egypt\u2019s net foreign reserve figures for June sometime this week.<\/li>\n<li><b>PMI:<\/b> The purchasing managers\u2019 index for Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia will be released on Wednesday, 3 July.<\/li>\n<li><b>Inflation:<\/b> Monthly inflation figures are due out next week. Inflation <b><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/06\/11\/annual-inflation-increases-to-14-1-in-may\/\">rose unexpectedly<\/a><\/b> to 14.1% in May from 13% in April.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Our friends at AmCham will be hosting Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker tomorrow<\/b> at their monthly luncheon. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amcham.org.eg\/login\/login.asp?ReturnUrl=%2Fcyberlink%2Fevents%2Fregister%2F1214\">You can register for the event here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><b>Dominating the global press this morning: US President Donald Trump\u2019s unexpected decision to enter North Korea to meet Kim Jong Un<\/b>, making him the first sitting US president to visit the country. The two leaders agreed to kickstart talks on denuclearization, but \u201care no closer to narrowing the gap between their positions since they walked away from their summit in February in Vietnam,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-northkorea-usa\/after-surprise-trump-kim-meeting-u-s-and-north-korea-to-reopen-talks-idUSKCN1TV00R\">Reuters reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Donald also dialed back tensions with China:<\/b> Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to re-enter trade negotiations after meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit on Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-48810070\">the BBC reports<\/a>. Trump pledged not to introduce further tariffs on Chinese goods, and in a significant U-turn said that US companies will continue to be allowed to sell Huawei phones.<\/p>\n<p><b>Things are looking better, but don\u2019t expect an agreement anytime soon:<\/b> \u201cThe quality of the transaction is far more important to me than speed. I am in no hurry, but things look very good,\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1145097779632627712\">wrote on Twitter<\/a> following the meeting. \u201cThe United States and China have been here before,\u201d reads the pessimistic opening line of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/06\/29\/g20-summit-trump-and-xi-agree-to-talks-but-offer-no-clear-path-to-end-the-trade-war.html\">article in CNBC<\/a>, in which analysts predict that the G20 2019 agreement will end up much like the one struck during G20 2018. Investment gurus seem to agree, viewing the outcome as no more than a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-06-29\/reset-of-u-s-china-talks-may-boost-risk-appetite-analysts-say\">short reprieve<\/a>\u201d for risky assets.<\/p>\n<p><b>Flows into EM spiked prior to the G20 summit,<\/b> indicating that investors were positioning themselves for a trade breakthrough, the Institute of International Finance (IIF) said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><b>An extension to oil supply cuts at least until the year-end in the offing: <\/b>OPEC+ are looking set to extend oil supply cuts following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opec.org\/opec_web\/en\/311.htm\">this week\u2019s meetings<\/a> as Iraq has joined forces with Saudi and Russia in backing a policy to prop up prices in the face of sluggish global growth, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-oil-opec-iraq\/opec-set-for-oil-cut-extension-if-iran-endorses-pact-idUSKCN1TV0I7\">Reuters reports<\/a>. The \u201cnon-cartel\u201d of oil producers has been slashing output since 2017 to keep prices up as production from the US soared to make it the world\u2019s largest producer this year.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><b>The Pharaohs reign supreme in Afcon group stage: <\/b>Egypt\u2019s national football team remains undefeated in the African Cup so far after beating Uganda 2-0 last night, topping their group with nine points and a five-goal difference. Mo Salah curled in a near-post freekick at the 36th minute, after which Ahmed Elmohamady hit the far post with a power shot just before the halftime whistle.
