Reserves <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/08\/07\/what-were-tracking-on-7-august-2019\/\">rose slightly to USD 44.91 bn<\/a> in July.<\/li>\n<li><b>Inflation:<\/b> Monthly inflation figures for August at due out next week. Inflation <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/08\/14\/egypts-headline-inflation-falls-to-four-year-low-in-july-despite-subsidy-cuts\/\">fell unexpectedly<\/a> to a four-year low of 8.7% in July.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>We\u2019re about to start the fall conference season<\/b>, with a number of international conferences taking place in the capital:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>The Japan Arab Economic Forum<\/b> is coming to Cairo <b>on 9 September<\/b> at the Nile Ritz Carlton.<\/li>\n<li><b>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euromoneyconferences.com\/event\/a011t00000FMpvZAAT\/the-euromoney-egypt-conference-2019#agenda\">Euromoney Egypt Conference<\/a> gets underway on 9 September.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saharaexpo.com\/en\/home.html\">The Sahara agricultural expo<\/a> starts on 9 September<\/b> at the Egypt International Exhibition Center.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/ecommsummit.co\/\">The E-Commerce Summit<\/a> <\/b>will take place at the Nile Ritz Carlton on <b>17 September<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li><b>The Egyptian Private Equity Association<\/b> will hold its <a href=\"http:\/\/enterprise.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/VC-Event-Agenda.pdf\"><b>venture capital event<\/b><\/a><b> on 18 September<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Over in the UK: EFG Hermes<\/b> will hold <a href=\"https:\/\/9londonconference.efghermes.com\/pages\/home.aspx\">its annual conference in London<\/a> <b>on 9-12 September<\/b>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><b>Nigeria has its own version of Egyptian trucking app <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trella.app\/\"><b>Trella<\/b><\/a><b>, and it\u2019s streamlining the freight logistics industry:<\/b> Startup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kobo360.com\/NG\/en\/\">Kobo360<\/a> is an app that connects cargo and truck owners to drivers and customers, increasing efficiency in a market that loses an estimated USD 19 bn annually from problems like traffic jams and a lack of available vehicles, along with illegal charges and insecurity. The company, which operates in Nigeria, Kenya, Togo, and Ghana, has moved USD 2.1 bn-worth of goods since 2017, and recently raised USD 20 mn in a Goldman Sachs-led funding round and USD 10 mn from Nigerian banks, which it plans to use for expansion in another 10 countries, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-09-01\/ifc-backed-uber-of-trucks-reshapes-nigeria-s-haulage-market\">Bloomberg reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"web-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/d240ccb1-dfcd-3d42-a710-803bf83b8482\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/9\/721.jpg?ssl=1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-06\"><\/a> <b>EM mutual funds prove resilient amid low survival rates in developed countries: <\/b>Emerging market mutual funds have experienced a lower death rate than funds in advanced economies over the past decade, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/d240ccb1-dfcd-3d42-a710-803bf83b8482\">the Financial Times reports<\/a>. More than 70% of USD EM funds trading at the start of 2009 were still open in 2019 in comparison to less than half of UK and European funds. This trend is mainly due to the fact that fund managers of EM mutuals have more chances to pick the best performing companies, the FT said.<\/p>\n<p><b>EM currencies to fall 2% against the USD this month -Morgan Stanley:<\/b> EM currencies could continue to sell off against the USD this month as US-China trade tensions continue to spook investors, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-09-01\/u-s-china-trade-risk-keeps-emerging-market-investors-on-edge\">according to Bloomberg<\/a>. Writing in a note yesterday, Morgan Stanley strategists forecast EM currencies to fall 2% against the USD during the month, suggesting that September may be <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/09\/01\/emerging-markets-suffer-worst-august-in-decades\/\">just as tumultuous as August<\/a>. \u201cFor EM prospects to improve, we would need to see the Fed turning more proactively dovish and\/or trade tensions abating,\u201d they wrote. \u201cNeither of these outcomes seem likely for now.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><b>Saudi Arabia appoints former royal court advisor as new Aramco chairman: <\/b>Saudi authorities have placed the head of the country\u2019s sovereign wealth fund Yasir Al-Rumayyan as the new chairman of Saudi Aramco ahead of the oil giant\u2019s imminent initial public offering, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-09-02\/saudi-arabia-replaces-aramco-chairman-with-head-of-wealth-fund?srnd=premium-middle-east\">reports Bloomberg<\/a>. Rumayyan \u2014 who served as a royal court advisor between 2015 and 2016 \u2014 owes much of his growing influence to how Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman positioned the state\u2019s SWF to drive his economic diversification ambitions. Rumayyan succeeds Khalid Al-Falih, who is also the kingdom\u2019s energy minister.
